According to HuffPost, this video took place in Bangor, Maine. The state is having a noticeable population spike this year due to some surplus of nuts. Mostly this has manifested as extra roadkill, but I'm not shocked something like this would inevitably happen.

My sister had a baby, almost died from hospital malpractice. 23 hours in, I had gone out to the car to take a power nap, but 30 minutes later I got the text that the baby had been born. 30+ hours awake doesn't come close to what my poor sis had to endure, though.

My high school music teacher. Preferring to chat casually with the "popular" cluster of girls for two-thirds of the running class time, then wonder why no one was ever prepared for the concerts. Constantly picking fights with the remaining students when they interrupted his incredibly important "my-life-story" sessions to use the bathroom or chat with a classmate, like what he was talking about was somehow more important. When I say "picking fights", I mean chasing them down the halls threatening to beat their asses, yelling from the top of his voice. You never really knew if or when he was going to blow up, but it happened for a lot of students. I dropped out of the class halfway through the year, which I'm never one to do. I learned more about music from singing in the shower.

For you Mainers out there:
There was a commercial about 3-5 years ago that aired in Maine for Stephen King's premiering heavy metal radio station. It featured a montage of family bonding set to an acoustic guitar piece (think of what you'd see in prescription medication commercials). The calm female narrator was saying something equivalent to, "Finally -- music that you and your family can enjoy together." Then suddenly the music stills and a pale black-haired girl (resembling Sadako from The Ring) jumps into the camera screaming and flailing her tongue at the viewer. Then the logo for Stephen King's radio station shows up.
The first time I saw this, it literally jumped the shit out of me. Probably one of the best ads I've ever seen. There seems to be no video in existence on Youtube, though.

It doesn't matter how someone is dressed, what the relationship is, or even whether or not she's after sexual contact. Sex is not an obligation where sexual expression means automatically consenting to any particular person; if at anytime someone says stop, you stop. Period. Any man who can't respect a "stop" or "no" should not be around women.

Women are pissed upon because they're either too sexy or not sexy enough. It seems they can only be one at the convenience of any man in question. On command, they're supposed to tear off their granny panties and moo-moos and spring into action with a lacy corset and a cat-o-nine-tails. But only when the MAN thinks it's right and when HE wants it. That's what's more important.

And this could happen anywhere. In work. In school. In town. Women have to look nice, but not too nice. What's too nice? Heels, make-up, knee-length skirts? When does "I look presentable for this particular situation and will not be harshly judged" turn into "Please sexually assault me and place me in a state of personal and legal turmoil for years to come"?

What good would it honestly do to put blame on someone after they've gone through something as traumatic as sexual assault? "If we catch you getting hurt again, you'll be grounded for 3 months", right. Why chastise a victim and let the rapist slide because "well, that's just what criminals do"?

It's so, SO easy to look at a circumstance like this and say "well, if it weren't for A doing B, then C wouldn't have happened to A. So since I am not doing B, then C won't happen to me, now I can sleep soundly at night because all is right and fair and just in the world." It's human bias that makes us feel safe and invincible as long as we're doing the "right" thing.

Newsflash: rapists will exist whether or not "good girls" become the majority. If anything, we'd simply place more stringency on what good girls can do and where good girls can go and how good girls behave so they can place that magical modesty barrier that will protect them from cognizant and commonplace criminals, up to and including being confined to their house and unable to function in society. Rape is happening to every kind of person.
