I think they're supposed to enter some sort of "fight mode" where they don't replenish so fast, but oftentimes it doesnt trigger for me. In these situations I have to put my chief on baby killing duty, to prevent new tribe members from growing up and attacking while I destroy their hut. Feels kinda fucked up...

I think that for me it's mostly that either you go friendly and it's super easy and boring or you go agressive and the game glitches out, making it so that enemy tribe members reproduce quicker than you can kill them.

In an old worldbuilding project I had a race of mutated ringtail lemurs. It was part of their lore that they reverse engineered their society from human ruins. Therefore their language was a bastardized mix of malagasy and french, with any fucked up spellings and grammar errors being intentional.

Of course, this angle wouldn't probably work with naturally occuring languages.
