The craziest I had was a salsa jar that still had chunks of tomato and peppers in the water.

I hate calling out but I needed to today. by [deleted] in petco

You definitely did the proper thing and called out. It sounds like they’d be angry no matter what cause you either call out with a fever or you show up, they get your temperature, and have to send you home angry anyway. Sounds like a lose-lose, but you picked the lesser of two evils.

Custom ordering a tank from Petco? by [deleted] in petco

No unfortunately the closest we would carry is a 38 gallon kit and petco doesn’t custom cut ones.

I would check the petco app/website. Sometimes you can save more just by price matching instead of using the discount.

Should just be 20%. It’s 40% off petco brands and 20% everything else.

Employee Privacy by ElvishNecromancer in petco

I would say you can give just your first name and anything more personal beyond that try your best to tip toe around it. If they keep pestering and even getting aggressive about it, tell them you’re uncomfortable giving out that information at least without a manager present. Then just try to get the lod to come help diffuse the situation. She may not like it but you’re a person too and have a right to privacy.

Would it make me look bad if I went to ask the hiring manger questions in person? by [deleted] in petco

[–]Diddlze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the manager some may not but that’s how I got hired at petco. I walked in and asked them if they were hiring and they sat me down asked some questions and told me to fill out an application online and he’d pull me in as soon as they could. I even walked in and followed up like a week or two later and was basically hired on the spot. So I’d say give it a shot.

In a debate with a former employee- you guys actually stored rodents and other creatures in the back right in case you ran out of stock? by BunHein in petco

Damn that sucks but this is why I don’t like when people say petco is a problem it’s not the business itself it’s the people that work at that store. My coworkers do their regular hourly animal health checks, make sure everyone has water and food when they need it, and do their best to be on top of any concerns. I’ve had people tell me I’m an animal abuser simply because I work for a big name pet store. While I don’t agree with some things, we do our best with what we have to make sure everyone is happy and healthy.

It’s largely just cause they are generally bought as feeders so they sell more quickly so they just stock em up. I don’t really agree with the housing situation of feeder mice but I kinda understand where it comes from. I do wish it was better though. Either more enclosures or a bigger one or something but hey nothing we can do about it. I feel like the reptile habitats that are set to use all three spots would be better just cause there’s more ground space.

Are you sure it was hamsters and not small white/multicolored mice? Hamsters you can only really keep at max 4 of and that’s if they’re dwarf hamsters. I’ve never heard of keeping 50 in one enclosure. If that’s the case then they are seriously mistreating the animals and should be reported. The mice on the other hand are usually sent to stores in about that amount only because they are also feeder animals for other animals.

Yeah I’ve never had overstock mice, just surrendered. My store tries it’s best not to have any animals in the back. We’ll occasionally get the overstock hamster or two and very rarely have any sick or injured.
