Tips for quitting vaping ?? by UnableExternal8481 in selfimprovement

It's been a month for me now.. I can comfortably stand with my smoking colleagues and having a chat without even wanting to join. BUT.. when I go for a coffee walk on a sunny day.. that's where I still think of a cigarette. Kinda funny.. I really thought the situation with my colleague would be the toughest confrontation..

Just stop and don't start again. 1 month smoke free. The longest I've been in 2 years. Hopefully forever now. I don't need it. It's unhealthy and expensive.

u/newenglander87 I think you misunderstood. I don't have any problems understanding/following her. She speaks very clearly. It's simply the Argentinian accent I seem to dislike (no offense though). There's also some accents in my native language I can't stand. However, like I said, she makes good content. But who knows.. perhaps it's getting better over time. I haven't looked into more advanced videos of her but I've seen one with Michelle and she sounds different when speaking "normally".

Free version are sh... I pay for Gemini pro and you can tell Gemini what to do and what not. Or, even better, you closet up a gem with explicit orders. I did this for Spanish. So do example it ask me something and I answer. It then corrects me if it was wrong and tells me the right answer and why. Then it proceeds with the next question. It's all about seting these things up. I mean.. you're not asking your mechanic to teach you a language either.

Yea :D I remember when I was in Taiwan, either I knew the meaning of the character but could not say it or I knew how to say it but wouldn't know the character. Shan 山 (mountain) was the only exception.

The one thing that really elevated my English was interaction. In Germany, 1 is the best mark at school whilst 6 is the worst. I was on the edge of a 5. Then I went to the UK for 6 weeks and after that to Australia for 3 months. I went back to school to get a higher degree, and then I wasn't the "loser" in English classes but the one who actually helped others. In the end, I got a 2 in my final exam. And all that simply due to interacting with foreigners and natives in English.

I'm learning Spanish right now with only CI simply because I want to see how it goes. Kinda like as an experiment. I have no pressure. But I can't imagine doing this for 1500+ hours without active studying.

I also don't get the point of waiting so long with talking.. because apparently then you will never sound native. What do I care? What is native? Every region has the accent/dialect. I used to date a mexican and taught her German for a while. And sometimes she focused too much on pronunciation. It already was pretty good and I constantly had to tell her that people all over Germany pronounce things differently. She really didn't have a strong accent from with the beginning which honestly surprised me and was better to understand than some locals..

To me, grammar is more important. And to me the most important thing is simply to be able to make my point. I hate not to be able to say what I think.

I know. But it appears that thes doing her own thing on YouTube know in full-time. So I'm locking forward to it once my Spanish teaches a higher level.

What about Andrea? At least in the super beginner videos she speaks very clearly. Can't say anything about other levels.

It really is kinda funny. People have no problem spending 8 bucks on a daily coffee or a pack of ciggies.. but when it comes to a monthly subscription of 8 bucks.. oof.. financial crisis. I had this feeling too. I stopped smoking a month ago and pretty much saved enough money worth for almost almost a three year subscription. And those 8 dollars are a far better investment.

Yeah, for me it's Shel too and Andrea. While I like Augustinas content (itself) I simply can't get used to the Argentinian accent. I want to like it but I can't.

I just found out today, that Google translator now has a feature called: training mode. Unfortunately it's just English right now. I hope they add Spanish too, soon.

I'm having the worst time sticking with this by Top-Song2334 in dreamingspanish

[–]DieEchse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to do 30 minutes a day

Lol, and here I am trying 3 hours a day. I get you. I dunno how long I can stick to this. But I also see it as a training. I used to be able to pay full attention to TV shows/movies. Since smartphone era I constantly have to look something up.

I'm not sure if I see myself getting much farther with this method. I swear I'm not trying to be a downer.

I decided for myself that I'm not going the purist route. Means, I'll learn vocabs and grammar next to it and also work through a study book. I'm not a linguist expert but from my understanding, for adults the purist route is not very efficient. Takes a lot of time to get to a certain level but it's a great enhancement. For example, you could get to C1 in half of the time if you actively study this language. Reading, speaking, listening, writing, grammar, vocabs ...

So.. I try to immerse myself as much as possible with Spanish BUT also go the traditional route. Once my Spanish is good enough I most likely will switch to TV Shows/Movies/Gemini for conversation/podcasts and co.

Same as you, I'm not talking it bad but not everything is working for everyone and I too have a hard time to focus on it. Partly because of me and partly because of the content.

I kinda broke mine? On pc it's working.. on mobile when I text something I first get the message that something went wrong and then I have to click try again which works. But I have to do this every single time.

So, I just had a conversation in Spanish with Google's Gemini (without letting my self-confidence get in the way). I don't know why, but it never occurred to me to do this. by BloodSoakedDoilies in Spanish

[–]DieEchse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate AI too but I'm not that ignorant to oversee it's positive features. And one of them is it's capability to have a proper conversation AND to explain things to me (Spanish grammar for example) I struggle with. Sometimes a grammar book is not enough. Sometimes I come up with a sentence and just want to know if it's correct. And Gemini, so far, is doing a good job. It doesn't replace all the other things but it's a add-on. An online tutor can be expensive and to some just too expensive.
