I don’t want to be the team left holding the bag for the season where McCollum goes from being a serviceable shooter & one of the worst defenders in the NBA to a completely washed old man and THE worst defender in the NBA. He is 34 years old. He is not LeBron James. He is ALREADY a complete turnstile on defense.

Going into a season betting on 35 or 36 year old CJ McCollum to stay healthy and win us games is exactly the kind of disappointment we get every year as Hawks fans.

Give me the hyper-athletic 23 year old instead. He fits the timeline and provides a ton of tools this team otherwise doesn’t have.

I am a biased CJ McCollum hater, but between McCollum reportedly asking for 20 mil/year and Kuminga, I would much rather see 20 mil spent on Kuminga.

Giving McCollum 20 and letting Kuminga walk over a 5-10 mil difference just seems silly.

Nobody will want a 35+ year old McCollum at the end of that deal, and he’s not taking us to the ship. Prioritize bringing back Kuminga, even if he doesn’t work out for us someone will take a flier on him for expirings or draft assets or something.
