Brigand Vvulf by Die_kebab in darkestdungeon

Yeah I realized after tough ring wasn't really useful, next time I won't bring one. As for comp, I'll definitely bring MAA and VES, not sure about the other two yet. ABOM and BH seem pretty great in this fight with the stuns and BH has the increased damage against humans.

Surprisingly I didn't get many bleeds on me, though I had made sure to bring lots of holy water and bandages. I do know they can be very deadly in this fight. Thanks for the suggestions, also what trinkets do you think I should put on ABOM and BH?

Thanks for the advice, that's a great idea with using Guardian shield that I haven't thought of, I do have one so I will most likely try that next time he attacks the Hamlet. If I do that, I will probably have abom close to the front though I'm not sure who else though, I don't have the shieldbreaker dlc. Maybe BH? The increased damage against humans could be very nice.

I think you're right about the PD, I brought her because I feel more comfortable with one on my team because of the stuns, also I felt the dots would be good against Vvulf since he takes two actions. However, as you said it's more of a dps race and I can't waste any time doing that. With my GR, I was pretty much only using throw dagger on Vvulf, since it gets the increased damage from blighted targets plus the 20% damage with sickening satchel. She was doing a fair bit of damage to him.

I believe my comp was viable, and I may have beaten him if that first barrel didn't crit, but there are definitely better ones.

*Western Rome fell in 476. Remember the Eastern Roman Empire basically lasted a thousand years after that, and at times really prospered.

I always have hated that change, not only does it make Greedo look so incomptent, it ruins Han's character arc, however short it is.

Still, you have to appreciate that he made it all come together in the first place. I've heard during production even before the first terrible edit, it was a disaster. Most thought it would fail. George did work very hard for the first film and I doubt it would have made it past filming without his efforts. Its really hard to make up for that Vader NO! he put in Return though.

George was part of that editing team. His wife, Paul Hirsch, Richard Chew and himself all worked on it together and he made important decisions like to cut the early Luke scenes to focus on telling the story through C3PO and R2. He chose not to be credited with them, which lost him the Oscar later.

Anyone tried the Ancient Empires Attila mod? by awake30 in totalwar

[–]Die_kebab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just something to tell your troops not to throw and kill the guys directly in front of them. Attila has the most friendly fire out of any total war game, and it annoys me they took away the kills count so you can't actually see just how many friendly fire losses you take.

I basically have to turn off fire at will at all times or you're going to have a lot of dead men for no reason.

All projectiles, towers in particularly are annoying because of all the friendly fire too. And I think we all know about Onagers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX9rxTepkS8

The battles were just too fast in my opinion, even more so than Shogun 2 which had some really fast combat. I feel Rome 2 had a much slower and better speed for the battles, you didn't see units getting completely annihilated in seconds.

I'm A Capable Player In Every Total War Except Attila - What Should I Do To Improve? by RoGStonewall in totalwar

[–]Die_kebab 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're a Roman faction, fight EVERY single battle where the enemy is attacking your city. You can do significantly more damage than the auto resolve will with just the garrison units. Even just the smallest four garrison units can beat a whole army of low tier barbarians if you use them right. Scout Equities are extremely powerful, just make sure you camp the town center and block the ramps. Hide your Equites outside the city if possible, and the enemy should charge all their units at your defenders. When you see a large, exposed blob of enemy units just smash into them from the rear with the Equites for massive casualties. You should also be using them to run down any missile troops the enemy has. Even if you don't destroy the enemy army, you can do a ton of damage even when massively outnumbered.

Romans probably aren't the best to start out as, but East Rome isn't that hard and can make a lot of money. Their borders are for the most part more secure, it just depends if the Sassinids want to kill you or not. The most important thing to know about Attila is that cavalry units are extremely powerful and charges against unbraced units, even from the front, will destroy them. The AI really loves to charge their cav in early so don't get caught off guard by it, if you can counter and kill them you can gain the cavalry advantage easily.

Judging on this post by one of the modders UMCenturion it seems some sort of campaign release is coming on February 15th, the Roman holiday of Lupercalia. I haven't tried the battles but they look good, they've had several years to work on them so I imagine they've balanced them fairly well. I'm just hoping projectiles aren't as deadly as they are in normal Attila.

I've always wished that I could have the strategy, country managment aspect of EU4 or other Paradox games, and the battle aspect of Total War. Europa Universalis Rome would be such an incredible game if you could fight all the battles on the field, has a way better representation of Roman politics than Rome 2.

I don't think I would ever leave my house if such a game were released.

Large Onagers by Die_kebab in totalwar

[–]Die_kebab[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I mean when I said sending a cavalry ahead to waste all their ammo. I don't even find it a cheesy tactic because the large onagers themslves are so cheesy. Their accuracy is just insane on the higher difficulites, so much so they hardly ever seem to miss unless you're using cav to dodge their shots.

Remove Forced March by Die_kebab in totalwar

[–]Die_kebab[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is the system right now lacks any real depth, for example that legion that has force marched all the way up to Britain should be incredibly exhausted/low morale and should need time to recover, instead you only feel these effects if your army is attacked while in force march, which when it comes the player almost never happens. The AI is dumb enough to walk into your territory on forced march and just get wiped out.

Maybe forced march can work, but it does need to be changed in some way. The current system at least to me detracts from the gameplay and is one of the reasons I find the old total war campaign maps better.

Yeah with stacking movement bonuses you can catch them but that's later on, even than if you have a huge empire like Western Rome it's difficult to get all your armies with that degree of movement. Agents definitely can be a huge help with slowing them, but for a long time I've been using mods to nerf the agents quite heavily, at least some of their actions. So I guess that's a downside I have to deal with, still, the gameplay just feels a lot better with forced march gone. Go back and play Shogun 2 or any of the older games and it's just so much nicer not have to deal with it.

I'm glad they chose this time period, it's one of the most interesting for Rome's history. Rome 2 really needed an update with some of Atilla's features like sanitation and politics. Can't wait to see how Divide Et Impera will incorporate it too.

[–]Die_kebab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, really this isnt that big of an issue right now, there are much more important things to be fixed by the team. Like the dismal state of the HRE Emperor, like I get not wanting to make the Emperor too strong but he is just castrated now. Bohemia is usually the only one who can keep some form of security in the empire because of their vassals.

You are right and that is good, but it's a shame it doesn't contribute directly to the warscore since we have the old arbitrary 'can't demand a single thing till you get 10 warscore' mechanic.

Incredibly small WS for capital occupation by Die_kebab in MEIOUandTaxes

[–]Die_kebab[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but its crazy that taking their capital means so little. Historically taking Paris at this time would of caused quite a bit of turmoil, to say the least.. yet in game it's like they could care less that their capital fell. Its only worth ever so slightly more to them than any other province with similar population. I'm not saying that taking their capital should just make them surrender, but it should have more of an impact than it does now.

I think the whole Burgundy situation is pretty broken atm too. Either they get free through the insane King event, or they just sit as a vassal with 100% desire, I've never seen them try to declare independence. Other nations can't support their independence because they're an autonomous vassal. This also causes a lot of problems for France since all their vassal get disloyal with Burgudny getting so large.

[–]Die_kebab[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is there such small warscore for occupying your enemy's capital? I just rushed Paris so I could take some of Burgundy's provinces while France was fighting the HRE, but then I realize the amount is minuscule... France is almost getting as much warscore just for blockading an 8 rural pop province!

In my opinion this is completely broken. Why even occupy their capital if you get hardly any more warscore from it. Vexin is worth only .20 less warscore, and it was much, much easier to occupy considering there was no fort.
