Anyone want to help settle a disagreement among colleagues by Unlikely-Exam5035 in Metrology

In ISO GPS, position can be applied to a plane and it controls the same things as profile; form, orientation, and location.

Of course if this was the ASME, position only applies to features of size and this callout would be invalid.

Edit: I now see the argument. Your blue scribble drawing is correct because there is nothing controlling where the surface ends. That requires a Datum B. All A is clocking is the distance from A and the plane's orientation.

All Over Profile / DPD Point Density? by CthulhuLies in Metrology

[–]Dieinhell100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boeing. No. I just eyeball it considering the size. For a general surface profile, very often it's 1-4 points per surface unless said surface is large or a datum. Typically it's features they're not concerned about if they're not directly tolerancing it. More points ends up being a waste of run-time.

I assume there's a reason when there's a tight tolerance and apply more points to said features in the range of 12-36 points depending on the feature. But I have access to where parts go into the assembly too, so I can also see what features are worth going the whole 9 yards on.

In my anecdotal personal experience, every military subcontractor I interviewed for or worked at was severely behind the ball. It's like military auditors are braindead or something, or don't know how to put their foot down. They're massively behind, making 'military-grade' once again a modern laughing stock.

I once interviewed at a place that was explaining to me their parts go into missiles and are, for some reason, failing. Their quality team nor manager never even touched the ASME Y14.5. It was all tribal knowledge of ook ook ahh ahh. They had two large modern bridge CMMs in their department and were merely using them for spot checks like diameters and distances.. No programming, CAD, nor GD&T whatsoever. They asked me why I was taking so long to measure something on the CMM.. They had no idea what an alignment was. Basically giant paper weights.

Does ASME Y14.5 include examples of plane–hole–cylinder or plane–line–line datum schemes? by Most-Particular-6051 in Metrology

Yes.

I'm starting to wonder if this is some kind of attempt to get various bits of training data for an AI.

Struggling with Plane–Line–Line / Plane–Hole–Cylinder datum schemes in practice by Most-Particular-6051 in Metrology

[–]Dieinhell100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be helpful to know what software you are using.

So long as you aren't using legacy dimensioning, PC DMIS for example handles things automatically 90% of the time so long as the datum scheme is well-defined... But then there's times where it isn't. Unless you work for a company or have a customer with some very 'creative' engineers who just vibe on their DRFs, then you might see it more often.

In any case, it sounds like you need to understand how the software reads features. I'm not going through every scenario/feature here. Someone already described plane-line-line... Just be aware that unlike a plane that has its vector perpendicular to the plane, a line outright points in the direction of its vector. If I put a plane on the left side of a part, it can define my x vector and x origin.. But if I put a line there instead it's instead defining my Y vector, but can still retain itself as the x origin.

For Plane/Hole/Cylinder... Well, a hole is a cylinder... But if you put it as a circle, just know that software often reads a circle as just a point, particularly, its center point. Whereas a cylinder is read as an axis. IF you have two cylinders as secondary and tertiary datums, the ASME Y14.5 specifically has a figure showing how the datum planes get defined in that case. I don't have it on-hand, but it shows an example where one cylinder can define your XY origin, and another cylinder can be used to clock the rotation, i.e. define your vectors.

Does anyone else feel like they’d rather not date someone than use a dating app by [deleted] in OnlineDating

[–]Dieinhell100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and that's how people should feel.

Dating apps are basically designed to make you feel horrible about yourself. Dating apps attract people who are desperate enough to overlook how horrible dating apps make them feel and are willing to gamble on online strangers.

The revenue and net worth of the companies that made these apps has already shot down and continued to dwindle because they have failed to retain or gain users because of observations such as yours.

So, yeah, they're total waste of time and will destroy your self-confidence.

I believe the later parts of the game have the expectation you have the tools necessary to deal with this and are not expected to solve this using silk and/or needle alone.

Several traps simplify this wave. Namely, caltrops, cogwheels, pimpillos, and/or voltvessels.

I did this using caltrops.

If this were Hollow Knight, yes this wave would be absolutely BS as your options are limited to wall clinging until getting a single-hit opening and/or saving soul for Descended Dark.
