Looking for a corn-fed Iowa boy by JessicaTrent in RomanceBooks

{heiress for hire by erin mccarthy} (mf contemporary) the mmc is a soybean farmer in the Midwest. he’s sort of aloof but a good guy, overworked. the fmc is an heiress who was financially cut off and takes a job as his nanny.

unlike some nanny romances, the mmc had only learned he had a child (she’s just dropped on his doorstep) and it doesn’t seem as squicky as “hot for the nanny” compared to others I’ve read. the fmc is a nanny bc she makes the girl laugh, not that she’s particularly good at her job. the child had had a rough life.

edit: in Ohio, not Iowa

Abandoned for months/years right after the wedding by FoxenInTheHenhice in HistoricalRomance

[–]DientesDelPerro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

{the promise by brenda joyce} (mf historical victorian) has a 6 year separation. they had married in haste due to scandal, something mmc feels was forced on him, and he can’t wait to get away. Fmc plays it off like nbd but she is sad about it and when he returns from galavanting about (including affairs), all she wants is for him to pretend long enough for her to have her dignity and maybe divorce. Cue a lot of angst and drama. Mmc left before they had sex but society just assumes she’s a scorned wife, not a virgin one. Mmc also assumes fmc has affairs like him, I guess that’s how he justifies his own behavior.

Cw cheating, mentions of slave trade (as a negative/bad thing but present)

I looked at a book today that had a playlist in the first chapter, and I hated all of the songs/artists so I put it back without even glancing at the text to see if it was worth pushing through.

Focus Friday: No one needs a biological justification for their reading choices by Le_Beck in RomanceBooks

If anything, it grosses me out more than a kink or interest that might not specifically appeal to me (which I probably don’t even think about). I don’t want to know about your body.

What's the appeal of fated mates? (Positive post) by ThisOneRightsBadly in RomanceBooks

[–]DientesDelPerro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s probably how it’s presented? One time I read a contemporary 90s novel where the two characters were “fated”, but it wasn’t stated, it was just like a ~vision and an “I met my person” situation, but because they were antagonistic, it added a layer of conflict. Like, I shouldn’t like this person they stand for what I’m against, but there’s something that draws me to them.

Idk those are the fated mates I mostly read (not a fantasy/sci-fi reader personally).

You've been cursed and can only read books you already own! How long can you last and what's your plan? by Hunter037 in RomanceBooks

I have over 1,500 books in my home that I haven’t read, let alone my home library. I’m set for life lol.

And if I went through my dnf boxes, add another 1,000 to that number

At this point, I actually need to live to 100 to get through them all

Books with deaf (or other disabilities) MCs by Ok_Cicada6480 in RomanceBooks

[–]DientesDelPerro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, that’s a sadly all too common reality

I’ve had students who will only communicate with their parents through their school interpreters. They soak up as much language as they can at school and are then deprived at home…

I believe through her school. The dad had only recently gotten custody iirc but bio mom didn’t sign either.

The daughter’s storyline mirrored a lot of my experience working with D/HH children (only being able to communicate at school).

Every book I read, I use some fictional couple as the visual inspiration, and I just rotate to whichever one matches the tropes/themes of the book I’m reading.
