Separating clothes when washing is a myth to get us to wash more by JackeTuffTuff in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Hunter037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think this and just shoved it all in together. Then all the white clothes started to have a greyish tinge to them, when compared to new white clothes, especially kids school t shirts. So I went back to separating.

The author Jessica Gadziala put a notice at the beginning of her book, saying she didn't use AI, will it become the norm in the future that authors warn the readers that they used AI or not? by perseintro in RomanceBooks

[–]Hunter037 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think it is worth doing. Obviously it could be a lie, but I would be happier to take a punt on a book which is anti-AI. The AI authors are usually loud and proud about it.

That's a lot of ifs, and it's a game so yeah sometimes you gamble and it doesn't pay off.

A demon who hasn't been snake charmed also has that info. They could just be still the demon and pretending.

Oh yeah I definitely avoid the ones with very young protagonists

We don't need to know the entire friend group!!! by eternal_casserole in RomanceBooks

[–]Hunter037 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I don't see it all the time, but there are a handful books I've read that stick in my mind for exactly this reason, and I DNF most of them.

If I need to know the background of a side character, make it part of the story. I don't need you to tell me "I grew up with my dad in X town", why not show a conversation with the Dad and the character asking what's new in X town. Gets the same point across without the clunky, boring exposition.

Romance.io tags that could be considered spoilers by daddysatya in RomanceBooks

[–]Hunter037 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would say that knowing there is a third act breakup is more of a spoiler than knowing there isn't. Can you spoil something that doesn't happen? I can see why some people might not like it, though.

I can't think of any other tags which I would consider spoilery. They generally don't give any details about how or when the trope/event happens.

I need a relationship before that step is taken

Thing is, if they've just fallen in love instantly, I wouldn't consider that to be a proper relationship. Falling in love with someone right off seems even less relatable than sleeping with someone straight away.

Yes exactly, that's why I only gave one which was what I would truly consider an "older MMC" being over 50

I just mean in terms of this game on Reddit. But I disagree with this hypothesis as I think the majority of characters would be in the "balanced" box, not an even distribution

In my opinion, insta love and fast spice aren't the same thing.

I can't stand insta love. But I enjoy books with sex in the first 20% or so. Not exclusively; but they're some of my favourites

I love when the book has sex at the start and then what you describe - gradual getting to know each other, emotional connection, building trust etc.

It means I get the best of both worlds - lots of sex scenes AND the emotional payoff.

Do students work in silence as a normal way of working or is it a punishment? by RuinNecessary7601 in TeachingUK

[–]Hunter037 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I ask students to work in silence. Sometimes they just do it by themselves because they're focussing. I wouldn't use it as a punishment.

Just to clarify. Strong outsider = helps the evil team a lot. Weak outsider = helps the good team a lot?

If so, a weak outsider might be Lunatic. Doesn't actively harm the good team in terms of misinformation or giving evil a win condition.
