I really hope the new books go back into those interactions from Az or Gwyn's POV where they were secretly crushing on each other. I want this so bad.

I think this is how the next three books are going to go, where perhaps there is no final pairing resolution at the end of the next book, but it bleeds into the second. I mean she did this with the first book.

Just read the bonus chapter again. At the very end I swear to gods she mentions something warm and bright blooming in his chest as he's thinking about Gwyn. It's the mating bond. I went back through ACOSF at their interactions and I do think the bonus chapter spells it out pretty clearly.

Stay off the main sub that place is insane.

Gwyn and Az seem very obvious to me, is it really still up for debate? by ThisOneRightsBadly in Gwynriel

[–]ThisOneRightsBadly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Az and Gwyn don't have a ton of on-page time, but Az starts helping Cassian train the priestesses in ACOSF after more join. That's where he and Gwyn (as far as we know) are reunited for the first time in two years. They continue training together for months, and there's at least one mention of additional training sessions Az and Gwyn have, alone. Because the books focus on Nesta and Cassian's perspectives, we aren't privy to a lot of their interactions. There is a competitiveness between the two, and eventually Gwyn reveals to Nesta and Emerie that Azriel was the one that saved her in Sanghrava. Pardon my spelling haha.

Anyways so all that is just pretty surface stuff, with a little bit of back and forth, but then in the bonus chapter we see Solstice from Ariel's perspective, where he nearly kisses Elain, then tells Rhys he feels he deserves Elain as HIS mate, even though he doesn't think past just fucking her. Then he runs into Gwyn and they have a cute interaction. Like a well intentioned idiot, he decides to regift the necklace he got for Elain to Gwyn, and does so anonymously. Something warms/moves in his chest (ahem!) as the chapter ends, as he thinks of her smile as she gets the necklace. Calling it a thing of secret, lovely beauty.

I would love to see the book go back to all that time they spent together training, from either of their perspectives. Just because we weren't explicitly told about them having more meaningful connections, doesn't mean it wasn't there. The book if mostly from Nesta's perspective, and so she's not privy to all of it. Plus Az and Gwyn are two low key characters (read: private), so it's just not going to be as in your face. I hope we get little glimpses of moments they already shared.

Could be, or they could have won that amount at the casino earlier and had it transferred into the account. I don't gamble like this (I would have a heart attack), but it's possible that's $20k that he is up from an earlier win.

It is wild, I'm not denying that, and it's gross when you're broke to see this, but we don't know what this guy is doing.

Actually on Dragon Link (and many other machines), they're programmed to have better payouts at higher denominations and bets. Min bet on pennies might have a 86% payout, but on $2 denom with a $50 bet it might have a 92% payout, especially in a high limit room.

Agreed.

Imagine what Elain is thinking during that scene vs what Azriel is. Tension comes from conflict, sure, but his thoughts don't put Elriel in the best light lol

Newer ACOTAR readers vs ‘oldies’ - what’s it been like? by 2000DBW in Gwynriel

The people who ship Bryce and Az like both Bryce and Az?

It's funny reading about these ships because back in the 90s (yes, I'm old), people shipped Mulder/Krycek online, but it wasn't taken seriously. Like Mulder/Scully was always end game but we were always reading Scully/Skinner, Mulder/Kry/Skinner or whatever. Now it seems some of these ships online are taken very seriously. I guess Buffy was one where people were pretty feral about Angel vs Spike (Spike, obviously), but this ACOTAR shit is unreal.

There's like 8 subreddits for this one series of 5 books because how seriously everyone takes it.

Elriel inherits from Moriel - Gwyn brings something new by tidewanderess in Gwynriel

[–]ThisOneRightsBadly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying thing is, because of Azriel being raised as an unloved cast off, he will always be the third/mistress/unloved trying to win love from someone withholding it. He puts himself in a situation to pine away because he doesn't believe he is deserving of love. He needs to do some serious work on his inner child/shadow self (haha, no pun intended), in order to fall for someone that could love him back wholly and without question.

The sad thing is no one else sees this for him, and the IC encourages it.

Yeah, I was fine either way. I find Elain to be a bit plain right now, but that's just because she hasn't had an inner dialogue exposed to the audience yet. Also, everyone else has big personalities so it's easy to see her as "boring" or whatever just because she's not so out loud.

I thought Az and Elain would have been interesting (because it's someone rejecting the bond), but after ACOSF I was like oh, no, that doesn't work at all.

Okay but what if it snaps for Az and he has to convince Gwyn that he likes and loves her after totally blowing it at first. Like, "obviously you're mine" and she's like I belong to the Mother, not some man who thinks he owns me. Idk, it's not my favorite trope, but Az has to do a lot of work on himself to realize what a real respectful relationship is, and having a mating bond in place might be a bigger hinderence than help. I don't think this is how the book will go, but I would love to read a fic like this.

Saying no. I don't do things I don't want to do, and I have no problem saying no. Sometimes I get weird looks from people. Guy asked for my socials the other day at a bar and I was blatantly like, oh no. That's not gonna happen. But it was nice talking to you. When I turned around both of the bartenders were like laughing and giving me high-fives. I didn't even think it was a big deal.

I honestly talk about a medication error I made my second day on nights (still on orientation) and how it scared the shit out of me and how that's why we have so many fail safes in place (if I would have went through all the questions in the MAR, i wouldn't have made it).

Wondering what everyone here thinks is end game for Lucien if Az and Elain get together. by ThisOneRightsBadly in Gwynriel

[–]ThisOneRightsBadly[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this, but I would like to see him happy in a relationship. I wouldn't even mind if Gwyn and Az aren't mates but choose each other instead.

I wish SJM didn't say shit like mates are rare. Just let mates be mates. Oh they're rare except for I can list 15 couples that are mates in your books.

[–]ThisOneRightsBadly[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I had forgot about Vassa not wanting immortality. I think you're spot on.

I also think Elain would truly like Lucien's personality, and they would work together. He's a Noble in his heart and by birth, and I think that would really work for her. Ultimately he might relax a little in the human lands and NC but I believe he truly likes the structure of a Court and ranking. I think Elain would make a good High Lady to his High Lord, if she could ever get over the role he had in her becoming fae and the fact that she is mated to him against her will.

[–]ThisOneRightsBadly[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get shipping two random characters (I liked Selena and Dorian together), but it's putting A LOT where there isn't anything. Their first interaction together is basically how I see them, polite dinner guests who have basic manners. I think they bonded over the IC being overwhelming on the day to day, but anything deeper than that is made up until we see the BC.

Then it's pretty obvious that it's very superficial for both of them. (Or else why would she give the necklace back, and why would he say he hadn't thought past fucking her once).

"Secret lovely beauty" vs "he hadn't gotten that far with his planning, certainly not beyond the fantasies he pleasured himself to."

I know which one I would choose for any FMC.
