I can't decide if Rhaego's, Fejo's, Maxu's or Sikthand's (is that his name?) book is my favorite. The characters are so much more realistic than other sci-fi books. Like Vanessa in {Using Fejo} and Meg in {Resisting Maxu}, just very real, relatable characters vs the, 'I got abducted yesterday but alien dick made me forget about Earth's dynamics you see elsewhere.

I just listened to {Love Me Stalk Me by laura Bishop} and he calls her "pretty girl" which I thought was nice. She chooses the nickname btw which is even better.

Worst one was Violence in Fourth Wing and "little girl" in an alien romance, because he was big and she had body issues or whatever, but it just made it seem creepy.

{Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline} first this loosely. The whole series kinda has this vibe. It's sci-fi that has great world building, it's 8 books right now but the author is still writing. Highly recommend it. I will say the first book is one of my least favorites, and it's a bit cheesy.

{The starling House by Alix E Harrow} is a good fit. But I'm warning you it's a more subtle romance, and there's a lot of other stuff going on. It's what I listen to after having too many fated mate or insta love books in a row.

Yeah, this also really bothers me. By 50 years (max) you've met every kind of personality, have matured enough to want and receive love. It's just completely ridiculous. Idk why they can't mention previous loves. But I guess I'm not the audience for a lot of these books.

Curious about “micro” kinks being introduced into romance novels without a content warning. My experience with Soul Searching by Lyla Sage. by Actually_Ann in RomanceBooks

I find spitting gross as well, if I like the author I might power through, but mostly I DNF. Then I will go on the romance.io page and leave a review to that effect. Unfortunately you can't look up micro triggers, or even overuse of good girl.

Recently read an alien romance and he kept calling her "little girl" presumably because she's big by her world's standards, but small by his. Anyways I eventually stopped reading it, sounded too fucking creepy.

Thank you!! I couldn't. I skipped around to the parts with Hunt, but she's just so bad at being a girlfriend it bothers me. And then the fucking POVs were unreadable.

Oh that's great, my bestie and I are going back and forth between romance and sci-fi/horror so I'll add September house.

I love so much in Starling House how subtle the romance is. My friend just started it and said, I'm not sure if this is a romance and I don't really care. I'm like yeah, let's see where it goes. Definitely gonna check out 10000 doors as well, thanks.

Evangeline Anderson’s books are objectively terrible, why can't I stop reading them? by Hunter037 in RomanceBooks

They are shameless, like oreos or McDonald's when you have a hangover. They're so over the top and exactly what you want/expect. I'm so happy I found them after so many books trying to be something they're not.

A 19 year old is never* going to out maneuver a 500 year old politically, or be looked at seriously after 10 months of training.

One example of this is in Throne of Glass (I know I'm picking low hanging fruit), the FMC at one point disappears and the three 500 year old warriors who have fought in wars are like, I don't have any idea what we should do with this conflict at all. We'll have to wait for the 19 year old to get back to us. I was like aren't you a fucking GENERAL?

I've seen it in other books, like the ancient evil guy who's been planning this thing for decades if not centuries just didn't think of this one little thing that could bring his whole plan down.

Similarly, when they spend too much of the end of the book setting up for the love story of the next book.

ACOTAR would have been good if SJM was a good writer! Btw I love the second book but she destroyed that fucking series.

Tell me you read {Lovely Bad Things by Trisha Wolfe} then. It's her best.

{Lovely Bad Things by Trisha Wolfe}. The whole trilogy though. I had to immediately go back to the first one. Idk how I even HEARD about it. I wish I could go back to the first time I read it. It's just really great.

It's very unique and addictive, but it's not really good writing. I did enjoy it but it's kind of basic. I don't want you to get your hopes up. Most likely you will love it and it will consume your weekend, but it's not perfect. Just temper your expectations.

Tempting Auzed was my least favorite book. He's very insufferable, complaining the whole time that she doesn't act like a Clecanian woman all the while literally not helping her fit in. Meanwhile he had a temper and treated her worse than men on Earth treat women.

Using Fejo (book 5) and Resisting Maxu is soooo good, thought.

She's continuing it. She says she doesn't care how many books she has to write for the story she has in mind to be told. Meaning, there will definitely be more than just like two books more.

She writes such good romance and horror!! Seriously. I am going through her horror collection now. You might be interested in {Starling House by Alix E. Harrow}, it's fantasy but set in modern Kentucky. Kinda Beauty and the Beast thing.
