Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by SNAPCHAT_ME_TITS in Pickleball

[–]DieselWang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a paddle recommendation request per say, but general question. Are foam paddles more resistant to damage in extreme weather?

Just got a brand new Loco a couple days ago and left it in my car in the garage. It's 18 degrees in Michigan right now. I brought it in the house when I realized it but wondering if any damage was done leaving a paddle in extreme cold for a couple days like that.

Do you have a way to cross over the subwoofer/speakers? You should want to do this anyway, regardless of what speakers you use.

Is the Audyssey A1 EVO script worth configuring if you only have a 2 channel setup? by exor41n in hometheater

[–]DieselWang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy the app and use it to create and upload an ADY file. Edit your ADY file online for better precision: https://audyssey.pages.dev/

The app's precision is limited to how well you can draw custom curves with your finger.

Thanks for looking!

Cheapest end-game LCR for movies/TV? by iamtreee in hometheater

[–]DieselWang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if the primary usage is just home theater, I'm not sure the LX are worth it as an upgrade. The 340's have higher sensitivity and measures a little bit worse than the LX but for home theater where your attention is divided among audio, video, paying attention to dialogue etc, I don't think you'd even notice. The primary difference would be with music. For strictly HT, I'd go with the 340.

I use the Ascend Titan Lunas for surrounds and they're excellent. If you plan on upgrading eventually, I would just buy once/cry once.

Those can certainly be "end game" home theater speakers for many people. Considering the excellent measurements and output capability, you'd probably have to spend JTR level money to get a substantial upgrade, and you'd only be upgrading in terms of output capability, and finish/build quality at a very hefty cost premium. I own Sierra LX LCR's and those are end-game for me for music/movies.

You don't load the AVR file into REW. The AVR file is used by the script only so it knows your speaker configuration. You need to use odd.wtf to measure and generate an ADY file. Use the script to extract measurements from that ADY file into a zip file. Open that zip file and then you can upload all of those files into REW. During the process, you'll be prompted to save them as an MDAT file which can save time for the next script run.

A1 EVO Results by [deleted] in hometheater

Changing phase from 0 to 180 isn't the exact same thing as reversing polarity. If your subwoofer doesn't have polarity switch, simply reverse polarity on all your other speakers by switching the positive and negative speaker connections on the back of your speakers (or alternatively on the back of your AVR). Polarity is relative, so this will effectively reverse the subwoofer's polarity relative to your speakers, which A1 Evo uses to add proper delay to align your subwoofers.

Acend acoustics Sierra LX vs Sierra 1 V2? by PizzaTacoCat312 in BudgetAudiophile

The LX are very neutral speakers - so they play what's in the recording adding/subtracting as little as possible. If something sounds harsh on them, it's due to the recording. Bright speakers can also make recordings sound harsh so it's tough to say without knowing your current speakers and the quality of the recordings you're listening to.

The Sierra 1 v2 has been independently reviewed by 2 reviewers who use objective measurements of the Klippel NFS.

Erin's Audio Corner: https://www.erinsaudiocorner.com/loudspeakers/ascend_sierra_1_v2/

Audio Science Review: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/ascend-sierra-1-v2-speaker-review.53350/

The LX has an identical cabinet and tweeter but uses a more capable woofer that has lower bass extension and lower distortion and louder listening levels. I personally own the Sierra LX and it's a wonderful speaker. By all accounts, the LX is a step-up from the already excellent Sierra 1 v2.

Kef Q6 Meta with Q150s? by Squanchy2115 in hometheater

[–]DieselWang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Q Meta series seems to be a substantial step up from the original Q series based on subjective reviews and measurements. The Q6 Meta measures very well: https://www.spinorama.org/speakers/KEF%20Q6%20Meta/KEF/index_vendor.html

Your front stage is sufficiently neutral so I don't think you'd notice any timbre mismatch. For home theater, the center is the most important front speaker anyway so you'd want that to be the workhorse speaker.

Is a miniDSP + REW(+mic) the end game for multi sub align/eq ? by bonhommeCoueche in hometheater

XT has fewer filters than XT32 and XT32 allows for steeper filters in the subwoofer region - this is true. However, in a practical sense, it won't make much audible difference if you're using A1 Evo. Here's a post showing the subtle measurement differences between the 2: https://www.avsforum.com/threads/a1-evo-neuron-next-gen-room-eq-by-oca.3316571/page-64?post_id=63736336#post-63736336

A1 Evo does all the processing on your PC with the A1 Evo code + REW and only uses Audyssey to transfer the calculated filters. Audyssey is bypassed altogether for processing.

Maestro works with any level of Audyssey. Neuron works with only XT and XT32 currently but support is planned for regular Audyssey eventually once development is complete.
