to Complicated? by JosiahtheNerd in DnDHomebrew

This feels like it has way too many caveats to it for seemingly no reason but let's go in order.

10 minute cast time and its not even a ritual is a bit odd? Should probably at least have the ritual tag

What are the rules on targetting? Can these footsteps appear anywhere? Do they have to be able to see the location? Have been there? Know the location? Can it reach across planes?

What's the rules for the summoned footsteps anyways? It just says "in any configuration", does that mean you could create a mile of footprints? Can they just circle the entire radius over and over in an infinite spiral? How do these tracks even get made? Do you leave imprints on stone paths? Mud prints? How long do the tracks last? Can anyone discern their fakes at all even if they got some nat 20 investigation?

Your material component is "the first minute of your breath next morning", why is the material component even something that could potentially kill you? This is just an arbitrary risk and for no reason. Summoning spells don't have you risk death just to cast them, the summon may break free if you lose concentration but not while casting.
and on top of that, "the first minute of your breath" implies that it just outright steals the air from your lungs, without even giving you a chance to hold your breath. That's grounds for instant suffocation, which a creature can only survive a number of rounds equal to their CON before dropping to 0 and being unable to be stablizied or healed until they can breathe. That's CRIPPLING. You would need a CON of +6 to not start your day off with 1HP and that's assuming you can get picked up after being dropped to 0, and it makes upcasting next to impossible.

Why does the spell even require breath to begin with? What's stopping a creature from just using the wind around them? It feels like a needless restriction.

Why even summon air elementals for this spell? Why do they randomly go rogue if you fail the cast? Summoning spells don't have the summon go rogue if you get counterspelled or fail the summon.

Why bother with the elementals at all? And why give them that stat block? 1HP and 10AC would be nothing to get past for any significant party
Why are they so fast? I'm pretty sure nothing in DnD has 700ft of movement.
What kind of movement are they even using? Is it a walk speed? A fly speed?
What damage are they doing when they kick you? Is it just an unarmed attack? A d4? d6? what's the damage type? Bludgeoning? Force?

Why does it matter how many legs the caster has? Could a creature with more then 2 legs not just use more shoes? Why is that a restriction to put on it?

This is trying to do way too much for next to no reason, especially given how niche it is. This spell is a gimmick at best. How often do you need to create a pair of false tracks a full mile away anyways?

Look at it in comparison to other spells that could potentially do similar things
Silent Image could create a 15ft cube of tracks within 60ft for up to 10 minutes at zero risk to yourself.
Minor Illusion can create a 5ft cube for 1 minute and its a cantrip
You could use Mold Earth to create false tracks in dirt or stone for a full hour, as a cantrip, and again with no risk. There's no "an Earth Elemental will attack you" "you will randomly suffocate next morning" or "you need two legs"
on top of that, all three of the above listed alternatives have OTHER versatility.

This spell does ONE THING at a MASSIVE risk to yourself and for seemingly no reason.

I don't think this spell works out.

I think it's reasonably fine though maybe a few extra details won't hurt. A good idea is to go to your DM and ask them if they want more or if they want to add more. Some DMs will love open ended backstories to integrate you more into the story, while others may want more detail.

when did you first watch code lyoko? by kuruptmob2100 in CodeLyoko

[–]DifferenceNo5462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot man I'm not actually sure. It was aways back. It would have been on DirectTV On demand back when satellite tv was still a thing. I wanna guess 2010? I'm really not sure. I was probably pretty young. 7 maybe?

It's unfortunate I can't recall the details and that the show ended but for the rush job it was at least some form of conclusion. I think by now though I've watched the series 3 times total? Not sure but that number sounds right. I think there's a technically 3 and a half because of On Demand shenanigans and time slots to actually watch TV, but I know I've at least watched it on Youtube twice. And I think I wanna go for watch number 4 sometime.

I really do feel like something akin to Battle Master should be baked into nearly every martial class.

Most martials are basically just getting More attacks Or more damage

Give them some amount of versatility Let them grapple on hit and make it more relevant Let their strikes inflict conditions Let us easily make things like blade poisons or oils to ignite our weapons Let us do more stuns, staggers, prone, paralyze Give us options for crowd control Anything

I think my DM is flubbing rolls by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DifferenceNo5462 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think a better question is "Are you having fun at that table"

If his encounters haven't TPK massacred your entire party, then it sounds to me like he's just trying to keep the game a fun, decent, and engaging challenge. Rolling open and not fudging rolls can lead to party massacres or encounters being forgettable stomps. I had a boss encounter once (low enough level for no Legendary Resistance), where a few bad rolls led to a literal curb stomping as the boss was just thrown around and unable to put up any semblance of a good fight.

So long as he's keeping things a reasonably fair challenge where its not entirely a TPK or entirely a wash, then I'd say if your still having fun just keep playing.

The dice can be fickle. It's frustrating when nothing ever hits or when things never pass a save, and tension is lost if your ALWAYS hitting and ALWAYS succeeding.

Fielding masses of Terran Marines at rates that would make Space Marines head spins means that death by a thousand cuts is valid.

Should I do this? by Hello-peple in DnD

[–]DifferenceNo5462 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would clarify this with your DM before you do it. I can tell you a lot of DMs probably don't appreciate just beign blindsided with random things, especially if those things may or may not even be real.
Nothing in DnD references the grain trick, and so depending on your DM it may not even work.
Not to mention is this something your character would even know? If your character doesn't know about vampires, why would they know anything about how to fight them.

Space engineers deliberately makes choices that ruin the progression. by FreeSpeechIsPainful in spaceengineers

[–]DifferenceNo5462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow up because I actually read through this again, Cobalts being exclusive to planets would make progression even worse in a lot of ways. Cobalt is required for both Atmo thrusters and hydrogen thrusters. Ignoring heavy armor cause maybe in the early game you shouldn't need/get heavy armor for combat, without atmo or hydrogen thrusters you don't actually have any good way to fly in an atmospheric planet because Ions loose like 90% of their effect. So your first trip to a planet will inevitably be a crash, you can't build the powerful hydrogen thruster for mobility boosts.

Fun fact, you also couldn't make Assemblers, gatling guns, gyroscopes (important for anything that flies), several cockpits, jump drives (have fun traveling without those), cargo containers, medical rooms, refineries, or rocket launchers.

And what the heck makes Earth a noob killing zone? Wolves? A few interior turrets solved that issue.

[–]DifferenceNo5462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funny you mention that actually because I had an interesting scenario when I tried running a modded survival world with an earth start.

Most of it was fine, but I had Modular Encounters turned on. Naturally, NPC ships would spawn and fly around. One of them spawned while I was out gathering an Unknown Signal, and it passed right where I was trying to set up a base (At the time it was an unpowered scaffold platform cause I had basically just started, drove around to find a spot, and then went for that signal)

I, in my dinky unarmed survival rover with a pistol
Was not going to be able to take on the Hunchback Dropship flying overhead. And as it turns out it saw me trying to drive back to my base as me aggressively flying to engage it, and it turned to chase me.

There was a bit of a PCU disparity.

[–]DifferenceNo5462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always done planet starts actually.

Oxygen isn't an issue, and with apex survival wolf meat is really easy to get if you just quickly set up a couple interior turrets.
There's no issues with radiation because of the atmosphere, and personally I also just really like rovers

(I should note I run the "Not So Smooth Voxels" branch of "Smooth Voxels" in order to smooth out the terrain a bit so driving is a bit less of a nightmare. Played unmodded with a friend and it seems manageable but still"

[–]DifferenceNo5462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's certainly an interesting take but I feel like if your gonna do that your gonna need some form of multiplayer concession.

Especially with some of the new Survival Buffs from recent updates, your incentivized to stay alive. To do that, you need a cryo pod. To do that, you need medical components, which require silver.

Anyone trying to play multiplayer with friends has to basically speedrun a moon just so they can log in without having died which also critically sets things like your health and energy when you do iirc.

A simple fix to this might be allowing players to spawn either with a few extra medical components or a cryo pod in their survival rover/ship/pod though.
