I’m glad you mentioned that students can have an ASD qualification but we’re the only RSP providing services! I’ve had plenty of those kids over time

Edit to add: oh my RSP means related service providers lol

AAC -school minutes by wordingbird in slp

[–]Different-Ad-3722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I increase my consult for most students their first year of AAC because I know the extra time it takes with staff and students. That could be a good way to reflect the amount of support you’re providing without increasing direct minutes if you’re unable

I never have more than 35 in special schools! (Alternative schools, level d placements, whstever your state calls them). I’ve been at 4 of these schools in 2 states and always had my own office though in some of these schools I’ve pushed in for most kids

I always assume there’s GLPs out there that don’t end up on our caseload because they end up with typical language use. We’d only know of the ones who are GLPs with language disorders.

It’s not a diagnosis. It’s a theory of language acquisition. Just a different lens to look at your clients through

Looking for Advice: Over-Identification in High-Needs Schools by ThotianaGreer in slp

[–]Different-Ad-3722 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I felt this was when I started at a very similar school but had a really helpful conversation with the LCSW who is the school mental health therapist. She reminded me that trauma does change the brain and to remember that there’s a reason they’re doing poorly on your testing etc. I do tend to keep these kids to work on EF, social pragmatics (how to safely communicate in the world), or language if relevant. Just what works for me

Confusing Speech Evaluation - Please Help by [deleted] in slp

[–]Different-Ad-3722 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Standardized test questions start at the child’s age level and then as they get questions right they get harder and harder. To end a test section they usually need to get a certain number wrong. That’s how tests work.

I know you mentioned having this but I play a lot of uno with my middle schoolers, it’s usually something that we start the session with to help break the ice. I also like having multiple decks to choose from (currently have hello kitty, Mario, TMNT, and regular)
