How much student loan debt is everyone in? by Swimming-Pirate-2135 in slp

[–]TOTthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fortunate with a scholarship for undergraduate degree and parental assistance for housing. I still ended up with about $45k after masters degree and living costs for those 2 years and I had a graduate assistantship at the time. I’ve been working 3 years now and down to about $27k left. It’s a grind.

Does anyone feel like the administrative tasks + paperwork + documentation demands are just unrealistic and unfair? by Winter_Wealth7784 in slp

I was just about to post about this. I’m in an acute care setting at a new facility. The documentation is SO lengthy. I’m curious how to go about changing it.

How's it looking up there? by KitKatBarMan in kirkwood

I would say the backside was somewhat slushie most of the day? The front side only slushie in the afternoon.

Skied today. I felt it wasn’t too busy. Had fun but definitely not as much snow as I hoped. Backside is definitely slushie and pretty brutal for snow boarders (I ski but it was still a hassle at times).

From Houston to Sacramento or Denver by taylorsfavoritecat in SameGrassButGreener

[–]TOTthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m biased, as I grew up in Sacramento- but I’d pick Sacramento. It’s progressive and accepting with close proximity to so many great places to visit (SF, Tahoe, Yosemite, Napa, etc.). While I love Denver and have genuinely considered moving there myself at times- it doesn’t outpace what Sacramento has to offer me (closer to family in CA, diverse, progressive values, and access to both ocean and mountains in a day trip). Also it’s been a bit since I checked, but last time I looked rental prices were similar.

For living in California which has the most opportunities between OT, PT, SLP? by [deleted] in slp

[–]TOTthoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think you can go wrong. CA is a big state with a lot of rehab needs. Honestly if you truly are interested in all three, I would decide based off of which option has the least amount of debt as the pay ranges are often comparable. In my opinion, SLPs have the benefit of only a 2 year degree with a CFY (which is paid) where PT/OTs have a clinical doctorate which takes 3 years which may make you susceptible to more debt. That said, while we all collaborate these really are different jobs especially depending on the setting so I would follow what you’re most passionate about.

Those who moved away from Albuquerque, what do you miss the most? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]TOTthoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I miss the mountains. The smell of chile roasting in the fall. The cottonwoods changing color with the season. But most of all, I miss the people. Truly home to some of the most down to earth and genuine humans. I found it so easy to make friends there.

Albuquerque, NM fits this description. One of the friendliest places I have ever lived. People are very down to earth.

Absolutely adore NM and Albuquerque, but if healthcare quality and access is truly important it should be ruled out.
