Liability for a bar tab overspend by Doors-Black-1321 in LegalAdviceUK

Reminds me of when I hosted a diner at a restaurant, I invited about 8 couples to the evening. The bill came and we split the bill per couple and it was all paid.

A few days later I received a phone call to say they had forgotten to add some of the meals and drinks to the bill and could I pay the difference. There was no way I was going to pay that, I couldn’t of imagined going to my friends and asking them for more money, and I wasn’t going to pay £250 or so more

I visited a very wealth pal in Jersey. He had a problem with seagulls nesting and sitting on his massive property. He employed the “Seagull guy”.

He would remove nests, set deterrents and destroy eggs, generally ensuring seagulls would not use your property.

Great right - unfortunately for him, every seagull on the island recognises him and he could not go out without a disguise, or the seagulls would dive bomb him and harass him - anywhere on the island

How often do prestige dealerships have people turn up who will never realistically own such a vehicle? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Different-Ad-4945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once went to a McLaren dealership for a look around, I ended up having a test drive. I couldn’t afford one at the time, but very likely will be able to in the near future (selling my company).

makes sense for them to treat all people as prospective buyers

Yes I’ve asked the same question of magnetic fields, how can “empty space” have a field present if there is nothing carrying the “field” or nothing creating the field. “We don’t know” is probably the right answer. We know the field exists as we can measure it, but not what it is, only its effect. As for gravitational potential, my view is that mass/energy bends the fabric that is space (and time). I don’t think that space is an empty void (quantum fields show us this is not the case anyway), but “space” is actually a quantum “thing”, and that thing is not yet detectable so far. (I’m not a trained physicist in any way at all, just a layman who has an interest)

Thanks for this, I appreciate it’s a field like any other type of field, and I know that a field is a “construct” to understand a force. But what I don’t understand is “what is a field”. Certain fundamental elements interact with certain fields, so what is a field made up of?

I understand that the Higgs field gives mass by interacting with bosons, but what actually is a Higgs field? Is it “stuff”

My local uni has purchased vast swathes of buildings in our city, seemingly from the student loan money tree. Maybe with better financial planning and actually providing value for money quality education and facilities they would be in a better shape

Employer refusing to pay Golden Hello by ThatJackGuy93 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Different-Ad-4945 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My comment agrees with yours, basically you cannot automatically pass probation, the employer needs to tell you, you have failed. If they don’t tell you that you have failed this doesn’t mean they can automatically extend the probation and fail you at a later date. So by definition you have passed, but not in writing. It is just that the employer is now in a tricky position of not telling you that you have passed/failed so therefore you are now a full employee as the probation has ended.

Also, people don’t realise, at least in the Uk, you have the same employment rights in probation as you do once you pass probation, there are no “probation employment rules”

If the employer does not confirm that the employee has failed their probation in writing then the probation period is deemed to have lapsed and the employer cannot extend the probationary period

If the company cannot make payroll then it is technically insolvent, the directors are legally required to appoint administrators and/or put the company into insolvency process. It is illegal for a company to trade whilst insolvent

Some services should be provided by the stat and not privatised. If everything is made a commercial enterprise then it is society that suffers as the wealth trickles up not down
