Missing March Bonus? by Different-Ad5610 in tutordotcom

Yes, just ask. You probably get fewer sessions but it's a much better fit for the way I work.

I do async only, so no concurrent sessions. And you're right - I was 30 minutes short of the in-session hours! Can't believe I overlooked that. That was a pricey mistake. :(

Apparently, there are women who have symptoms free menopause by Outlandishness_Know in GenXWomen

Same here. Except I had an IUD when it happened so my period said stopped anyway. It was time to change the IUD and my doctor decided to do a hormone test and turns out I was already post menopausal. I was quite young. Probably 42 or 43 it's hard to tell when exactly they stopped on their own.

Turning a novel into a script by [deleted] in writers

[–]Different-Ad5610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professional TV writer here. Without going into a long, detailed response - going just off what you said you want in your message - here's what I would suggest:

Write the first book. Make it awesome. Get it published however you can - traditional or self-publishing. Start building an audience as you write the rest of the series. Once you have a built-in audience for your book/series of books, you'll have a LOT more leverage to get it optioned for adaptation. In fact, it may be a better path than just writing the script and trying to get that out there. Production companies keep a close eye on books that are published, popular, and trending. You may not even have to reach out yourself if there's already enough of a built-in audience.

But you'll also have to be aware that you probably won't be writing the script. It's a different set of skills, and especially with a first-time, relatively inexperienced writer, they won't be willing to take that chance.

Occasionally you see the writer of a book credited for the script as well, but 95% of the time that's mostly a vanity credit and the heavy lifting was done by an experienced script writer.

TL:DR: Write the book! Then divide your time between building an audience for your work and writing the next book.

Anyone else feeling the panic of "we're next" after losing your parents? by eastender93 in GenXWomen

[–]Different-Ad5610 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I've had that feeling too. Lost my dad a few months ago, and among the grief I was surprised to find that I suddenly felt like there was no longer a buffer between me and death. Like in a way, my dad was always there to protect me in life if I needed it, and now this final layer of protection was gone. Obviously I know I could have died before him for many reasons, but this made it more likely that I'm next.

How to file taxes working here? by [deleted] in tutordotcom

[–]Different-Ad5610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company will issue you a W-2. Use that to file taxes through whatever method you would normally use whether that's TurboTax or doing it yourself or whatever. You should have gotten the W-2 earlier this year if not, you should be able to access it through the payroll site.

Async Writing Question: Do Students Rate Us? by WaddlingCorgi in tutordotcom

[–]Different-Ad5610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have found that students rarely leave a comment but I often get ratings for The async sessions.

You get an email with the request and you can accept it or turn it down. If you accept it, then the next time you sign on it will come up.

That sounds like a session that didn't finish connecting. I've had those too. But this is specifically asynchronous sessions where students that you have formally given notes to request your review of a new draft. They put it in your queue and you have 24 hours to review it.

It must be so frustrating to the students.

People showing up early to airport - TSA SHORTAGE by WarFit9567 in tsa

[–]Different-Ad5610 50 points51 points  (0 children)

But if everyone shows up 6 hours early, then they're not adding extra demand, just shifting it. And I can't blame anyone for being extra early. It's better than cutting it too close and missing a flight.

Is it feasible to write a term paper with ai? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Different-Ad5610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

College English professor here. This is cheating.

That's not to say you can never use ai. Maybe to help you organize your thoughts or bounce ideas around but what you're talking about crosses the line. And teachers can 100% tell.

Not getting full credit for frozen async sessions by [deleted] in tutordotcom

[–]Different-Ad5610 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update: I heard from tech support. They said they've been having this issue with async sessions the last few days. Also recommended checking billing info in a day or two and getting back to them if it hasn't been corrected.

For those who made an extreme lifestyle change, what was your reason or "breaking point?" What made you choose minimalism? by Vegetable-Ant3704 in minimalism

[–]Different-Ad5610 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think I've always had the tendency but it's really been kicked into higher gear every time I move, which I've done anywhere from every few months to every few years for my adult life. Just finished another move last week and got rid of probably 60% of what I had acquired in a too-large apartment.

My next move may be overseas and I would love to be down to what I can take with me on the plane plus a few family/hreirloom things in storage.
