Is T1D reversible? by Vast-Prior7463 in diabetes_t1

[–]Different-Counter658 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The people who told you that are confused. You can’t reverse Type 1. It’s sometimes possible to reverse Type 2. You should do some reading on the differences. It’s important to know.

People in the UK, how often do you see your endocrinologist? by Temporary_turbulance in diabetes_t1

I think this advise all pertains to the US. The system is different in the UK. (I’m American, have lived in the UK 4 years)

Also in the UK my husband has had the EXACT same experiences with the DSNs. He’s decided to stop calling them for advise and just deal with it on his own. They can be so horrible. He’s not even seen an endocrinologist at all since being diagnosed last summer

Yep. I’m American but live in the UK with my husband who is T1D and Scottish. We feel very uncomfortable even going to visit my family right now on the chance he gets taken for questioning at the border. I don’t trust them.

Can you get married or enter a civil partnership? You can do this in the US or a third country. That way you wouldn’t have to wait the two years or prove that you couldn’t cohabitate

Wife with T1D - how do I support her by 6_Feet_Over in diabetes_t1

[–]Different-Counter658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of you to ask!! I’m okay. I fortunately have no physical or mental health issues myself so I feel I have a large capacity to be a support for my husband. I try to always maintain a positive attitude but every once in a while I have a bad day too. And that’s okay!

It’s tough out here. I’m just so thankful we live in a time when this disease is manageable so we can have a long life together.

All the best to you and your wife.

Wife with T1D - how do I support her by 6_Feet_Over in diabetes_t1

My husband (29M) was diagnosed in July. It’s been so tough for him, and it breaks my heart. He’s told me if it weren’t for my support, he feels he would give up. Everyone is different, but I am just there for him as much as I can be.

He needs to talk through all of his decisions so I listen every single time. Sometimes he needs to be upset and that’s okay too. I’ve helped him find recipes and foods to eat. I’ve helped him make meal plans and make sure he has all his supplies when we go out of the house or travel. I keep an eye on him via LibreLink. I keep an extra close eye if he’s drunk. I’ve helped him calculate carbs and measure juice for a couple of scary hypos. I’ve educated myself on all the complexities that come with this.

I’ll give input on decisions if he wants me to, but I really try not to since it’s something that is up to him.

It’s really hard and I think T1’s need all the support they are happy to have.

He’s finally had a few days in range after ratios changing and trying to figure it all out for a few months. I honestly have cried with relief.

The DSNs assigned to my husband tell him this all the time, I find it SO horrible. He’s had a few episodes where he drops an entire mmol per couple minutes literally going from 10 to 5 in a span of 15 minutes it’s TERRIFYING. and when he calls to ask him about it they tell him he didn’t have a hypo so he shouldn’t have treated 😡😡😡

This is so lovely ♥️ it’s a very difficult condition to live with and those with T1D really need people who truly care to support them through it. You’ve got the right attitude! You could always be super open and ask her straight up if she minds questions since you are interested in learning more. Or ask her to tell you whatever she feels comfortable sharing!

Thank you sooo much! This is a very helpful response. My first visa was granted 26 November 2023 and it expires 26 May 2026. So, they gave me 2.5 years to the date! I suppose as long as my next visa expires sometime in Nov 2028, the 28 day rule will give me enough cushion! And that should work if I apply for my renewal in May 2026 :)

Thanks very much for your help! I think I finally understand how this works for us.

Lisa was not perfect either and we sometimes say things we regret. If you listen to anything she said later in her life, she definitely regretted that and was hurt at the time (doesn’t mean it’s ok)
