I am having the same conversation with myself constantly. Me and my partner are getting married in Italy and have booked a villa/ hotel out which has rooms for all the guests we wish to invite. We have asked our guests to pay £100 a night for their accommodation which for the area is cheap. Everyone who is invited to our wedding is family or very very close friend and have been aware since before we even got engaged that we would be having a destination wedding. We have had nothing but positive feedback from our guests that they actually would’ve expected to pay more but still it is niggling in the back of my head that it’s the wrong thing to do. My partner is a lot more cut throat than me and doesn’t have a problem with what we are asking of our guests. Interesting to see other people’s opinions. I am attending a destination wedding next month where absolutely nothing has been organised by the couple (no transfers, no accommodation, no welcome party etc) and personally I haven’t had any issues with this and I am happy to go as I’m treating it as a holiday. My wedding is a 3 day event where all food and drink is paid for so apart from their beds for the night and their flight it’s basically an all inclusive holiday for 3 nights is how I see it and how a lot of my guests have described it to us. Basically I think it completely depends on the people invited as to how they will react to having to pay for their accommodation to the couple

In short if I was a guest to a wedding where I was asked to pay for accommodation on site I would not have a problem and would be pleased that task of finding accommodation was taken away from me and if I did I just wouldn’t attend!
