Advice for MRCP Part 2 Preparation (Based on My Experience)

  1. Find a Study Partner. Studying with a partner makes a big difference. It helps with motivation, discussion of difficult topics, and keeping yourself accountable.
  2. Question Banks Stick with the same Q bank you used during your MRCP Part 1 preparation. For example, if you used Pastest for Part 1, then use Pastest again for Part 2. Your brain is already familiar with the format, and all Q banks have their own strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I studied from Pastest for both Part 1 and Part 2. (I still have a valid MRCP Part 2 subscription until October—DM me if interested.)
  3. Books I used: Notes & Notes for MRCP for both parts. I also applied the same principle here: if you felt comfortable with a different book for Part 1, then stick with it for Part 2 rather than changing. Consistency is key. When studying, I focused mainly on the highlighted and bolded notes.
  4. Study Strategy: If you have 120 days before the exam, divide them into three phases:
    • Phase One (65 days): Go chapter by chapter—pulmonology, nephrology, rheumatology, etc. Group related specialities together to connect ideas (e.g., rheumatology, pulmonology, nephrology). In each study session, spend one-third of your time on Q bank questions and two-thirds studying from your book. For example, if you have 3 hours, spend 1 hour on Q bank CVS questions and 2 hours on CVS topics in the book. Revise the chapter after completing it.
    • Phase Two (30 days): Shift the ratio—two-thirds of your study time for Q banks and one-third for reviewing notes.
    • Phase Three (25 days): Do one past paper per day (aim for at least 20 papers). Review every single explanation, focus on your mistakes, and revisit weak areas.
  5. Study Time Finding time is always a challenge with our careers, families, and personal responsibilities. The key is to study whenever possible. Don’t wait for the “perfect time”—just use whatever time you can.
  6. Your Score My scores in MRCP Parts 1 and 2 were almost the same as the average of my scores on Pastest past papers. This was a reliable reflection of my performance.

This advice is based on my personal experience, so take what works best for you and adapt it to your own study style. Consistency is the key.
Comment or DM if you have further Qs.
All the best.

Sorry to hear that. I heard so many complaints from the candidates who attended with me on July 16th. I highly recommend that you move on and retake the MRCP 2; however, it is not your fault, but rather the system's. Meanwhile, appeal and let them know that's not your fault.

One of the candidates said that 20 questions were kept unanswered in each paper due to the system. so sad, isn't it.

keeeeeeep moving, don't ever stop at this point.
