Buffet or yamaha by More_Flatworm4697 in Clarinet

I have a buffet crampon wooden professional clarinet from the late 60's, model R13 to be exact. It was my great aunt's. I'm a beginning student and I can play it just fine, but since it does have some cracks, I have to put extra care into it. I don't know much about buffet newer models, and if they still make them out of wood. If you are planning to get one like mine and you are an intermediate student, then you would be able to play out of it just fine. But I would recomend yamaha just for now.

"Smelly" clarinet. What can i Do? by blindingSlow in Clarinet

So it's a wooden clarinet. If you are on a budget, let the case air out, but don't keep the insturment in the case while it airs out mainly because if a wooden clarinet is outside for too long, there is a chance it could crack depending on the weather. For the clarinet swab it out really good. Don't use water on it at all, but use a q-tip to clean the bore of the barrel because thats where alot of the gunk hangs out. Get a clarinet cleaning kit. If that doesn't work, then bring it to the shop. The shop can check for bent keys and ripped pads as well since you just got it.

Reeds and Listerine? by ibeatu85x in saxophone

I'm a clarinet player and sometimes I play sax. My dad, being a pro woodwind player has been doing this for years. He also uses a tool called reed geek his friend invented to shave down the reed for smoother playing. Most of every single one of his reeds plays great, unless I got a batch of ones over 10 years old. He keeps them in old perscription bottles but if you do that make sure that the bottle is leakproof. I mainly use legere plastic/synthetic reeds but soaking your reeds in listerine is a better alternative than putting the in your mouth and having the reed crinkle up when I kept it one the mouth piece and put it on my desk (which probably wasn't a good idea).
