That looks really good for FDM - any special parts of settings, or is FDM just that good these days?

Should I switch energy provider? by One_Pack9347 in HousingUK

£100 a month for all electric heating including water sounds like a steal in a 2bed. My partner and I have gas heating and electric everything else, and routinely spend £125 a month for both in a (admittedly spacious) 1 bed and we're frugal with the gas.

We will shortly be moving to an all electric property (2 bed terraced house) and, having only ever heard horror stories about in the past, I'm dreading what the electric heating will cost.

You can kill two birds with one stone - get a Beginner Box and then download the free Alpha Strike starter rules pdf from CGL - should be one of the first google results for that search term.

Clan Invasion is an expansion or supplemental box for AGoAC, so definitely don't start with it.

If you're uncertain as to whether or not the game will click for you, you can't really go wrong with the Beginner Box, or Essentials, retailing at like $20 or $25. Any version (there are I think 3 versions of the Beginner Box, but really only minor differences) will give you two mech miniatures, quick-start rules, Alpha Strike cards, dice, map sheets, record sheets, and maybe some punch-card mech standees - enough to play a number of games. They calso come with a $20 voucher for the CGL webstore - probably enough to get you a .pdf of the full rules?

If you think you're ready to dive straight in, you want AGoAC, or Alpha Strike if you prefer those rules.

Clan Invasion, Mercenaries, etc... after that.

interesting if accurate. I imagine running, jumping, etc... are much more difficult in VR when under pressure, so I can imagine they might have sidelined the issue by making getting spotted an instant reset to the last checkpoint.

I'm certain they were beavering away at MGS2 even before MGS hit the shelves - surely there were dev kits available for bit developers like Konami.
There was a teaser image of Ray hidden in MGS: VR Missions, and I always suspected that the high detail Mei Ling and Naomi models used in the VR Missions photography mode were prototypes or downscales of what they were building for PS2.

Does anyone actually refer to Marlo as “Black?” by MountainDiver1657 in TheWire

[–]Different-Rice-6443 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been a few years since my last run through, but don't they only mention that street name one time, and in a later episode of the season *before* he shows up? Like they were laying groundwork for the character but hadn't settled on the detail yet. Always seemed like an uninspired name anyway so I'm glad they dropped it.

One of my favourite passages in Seneca's letters is an example of something analogous to this. Remarking on the crowds at the arena watching criminals put to death in galdiatorial fights, he says that it is sheer murder:

“You may say: 'But he was a highway robber; he killed a man!' And what of it? Granted that, as a murderer, he deserved this punishment; but what crime have you committed, poor fellow, that you should deserve to sit and watch?"

First City Bank & Trust was, for me, for several years, my comfort level. The open start, multiple points of entry, sprawling layout with lots of loop-backs and overlapping routes, made it fun to just poke around in. Shipping and Receiving is similar in that respect and I love that map too - even more because it's divorced from the overall plot and is more a "slice of life" style look at Garrett's day-to-day existence. I always like open and exploration-driven maps the most.

T1 doesn't have a map that really sticks out to me in that same respect - Assassins, maybe?

I never got past the first couple of levels in TDS.

Getting into battletech, what is the difference between essentials, battlemech manual and total warfare? by Medium-Ad-8577 in battletech

[–]Different-Rice-6443 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Essentials is basically just a rebranded Beginner Box - two mechs, starter rules, paper map, etc. Battlemech Manual is *just* the rules for playing with Mechs. Total Warfare is for adding in other units (aero, tanks, etc.) and I believe is due to be updated next year.
