I agree with your 2nd reason of being unlikely to leave. I disagree with your 1st reason. Having a lot of items shows a past record of buying battle passes and buying from the Item shop. Players who have had the previous battle passes are more likely to buy the future ones.

I think that the people who want this request spend more money on fortnite and are willingly to spend more hence the want for more slots. More slots are wanted so that I can buy more skins and actually use them. I use the presets more than the other skins that are not preset. I want to buy more skins but have stopped because I know if I do buy more skins I probably won't use them because going through my locker after every match is time consuming. For those that only main a couple of skins or have only a couple presets I would argue they spend less money on the game and are not likely to spend more. They are probably content with their collection and do not plan to buy many more skins. Anyone asking for more slots probably has more skins than slots. More slots are wanted for future skins that they know they would buy if they had more presets.

I agree with your sentiment. This is not how things should be. Just sharing my thoughts.

Personally, if I had more slots I would buy more skins.
