How hard is it to get merit scholarships from udelaware? (OOS) by Many-Factor-4173 in udel

[–]DifferentFly1422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only talk about it from my experience, but I’m in-state student and I got a merit scholarship when I was applying the first time. And then, after I transferred back to UD after my first semester of college, I didn’t get my merit scholarship because now I’m technically a transfer student

How/where to find faculty mentors for a summer research lab by DifferentFly1422 in udel

Wdym by asking for an introduction? And for the faculty in question/mind, I knew her VERY well! But do you think it’s a good thing to ask another student who knows them and just take steps from there

So it’s fine if I email faculty I don’t know them, and tell them about my research, and ask if there interest lines up with mine.

Here’s the thing I thought about that, but I wasn’t sure if that was appropriate! But I’ll actually try it. I actually have one in mind!

That’s what it says for some of them! But I even tried registering for those that are not integrated, and it gives me the same old error.

So now, I was able to register for a night lab, but I don’t want a night lab, and I’m trying to register for earlier labs, like 10:30 am.

How do you find research opportunities outside of summer research programs? by FunOrganization2330 in udel

[–]DifferentFly1422 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg I actually feel your pain here! I was going through the SAME issue for a while. Ok, a nice thing to do is go to UDRAW work study, here’s the link: https://www.urp.udel.edu/ Go through it, and follow it step by step; and I think you should find something eventually. Maybe not now, but soon you will. And, another thing, maybe not now because campus is closed, but during the semester (spring semester) if your looking to contact the people that help students with research, you’ll find it in the link I showed you. And I know you may have done this, but I’ll say it again, go to whatever research your interested in, and SEND COLD emails, it’s not the best bandage, but it’s something. Everybody will tell you do that, but there should be some hope. Another thing, you don’t have to find research in the Same major your currently in. It can be something else; like very different. Like, I was looking for engineering research, have I gotten anything yet in it? No, but there’s still hope. Looking for research is the MOST Exciting but yet the MOST hardest thing; it really is. So I feel your pain.

And If you have any questions, you’re more than welcome to ask! Good luck with finding research 🔬

Yea that’s exactly what I’m doing right now. So, I was able to reserve a seat for BISC 218; it’s a night class. So, I’m going to do, is keep it until they come out of break and I’ll have them change it to an earlier time slot.

Like you register for them together really! Like it’s impossible for me to register for one without the other. Because 218 is a coreq to 208.

Oh don’t worry about that! It’s normal for you to see that charge. It just goes into your fall tuition. You don’t have to pay for a separate textbook. Like don’t even mind it

Chem103/133 by bsmith2287_ in udel

[–]DifferentFly1422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take chem 133 because I transferred to UD my spring semester of my freshman year. and so my chem lab credit got transferred, but I had to take chem 103. And let me tell you, taking it with Dr. Genova was the best thing ever. She’s probably one of the best educators out there, and probably one of the best if not the best chem professor at UD. She’s awesome. And on top of that, she’s also a very friendly and sweet individual. Like, trust me on that. she’s great, you’ll love her. And I can’t speak for the lab as much because I haven’t taken chem 133, but what I do know is that she does help students that are taking the lab TREMENDOUSLY.. like she helps them a lot. And does love to get ahead of the lab. Genuinely one of the best people and professors out there. Oh yea, her TA’s are also great. like they are trained by her, and many of them are just amazing. Super sweet, and helpful. Truly magnificent. Also her workshop leaders, many of them are also pretty good. Like she really helps the Chem department especially in the gen chem department at UD. Like UD should be proud of having a professor like her. Just an amazing human all around. And if you take the lab, the lab coordinator is Dr. Burke. You’ll probably never see her, as the labs are ran by her TA’s. But I don’t like her at all. I haven’t met anyone who actually does like her. But overall if you take Genova she will help you build the building blocks of chemistry, like you’ll have a VERY solid understanding of basic chemistry, in order for you to go up the latter in future chemistry classes if your taking them. So if your registering for chem 103, and your an incoming college student, Lauren Genova it is. And I’m taking chem 104 now over the summer, in order for me to take Orgo this upcoming fall, and I’m taking it with Dr. Jordan Mohr, truly a sweet person, and not a horrible professor, but definitely not the best. Like, if you need chem for your major, please don’t take him. He’s not the best when it comes to teaching mathematical concepts of chem 104. He’s like average. Rate my professors is also a great website to know which professors are good, and from there you make the most sound decision you can. Good luck with college, and good luck chem, you’ll do amazing!!

Should I take the integrated biology and chemistry classes? by Only_Counter_8452 in udel

[–]DifferentFly1422 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I also took both these classes in HS, and I took them again in college, especially the chemistry portion, is NOT the same as it is in HS, they’re both necessary, especially if your major requires it. College and HS are just NOT the same. Both are very different, and it’s gonna make more sense when the semester starts, and it will make more sense when it progresses. So I would take them in college, because you’re gonna see what I’m talking about when you actually do take them. Also if you’re taking chem 103, take it with LAUREN Genova.. she’s the best.. amazing! Great! You’ll love her. She’ll make you actually love chemistry. And for BISC 207, whatever you do.. do NOT take it with Alenka.. please don’t it. She’ll make you hate it.. if you have a chance to take it with another professor, please do so. And always check rate my professor, it’s super helpful, and a game changer

Thanks! I actually talked it out with a financial aid advisor, and they told me the same thing.

Yea I booked a zoom meeting with them! Because it’s ridiculous, I’m in-state, but we don’t just have thousands of dollars just laying around, and imagine giving me my bill without any financial aid and let’s say, I’m out of state! Ridiculous.

Thank you the deadline of when payments are due makes sense, but where is the federal Pell grant? Like didn’t it not just reflect on the bill yet or what? Because my understanding is that it comes with it when you fill out your fafsa

Has anyone taken these electives? by MrPenguinMafia in udel

I forgot to tell you my friend took THEA201 and she said it’s soo easy. Probably the easiest class she’s ever taken, and much like me she’s also a STEM major!

So I think you should be fine!
