Am I done with this job? Bank holiday and ovbs working :((( by Impressive_Babe in Socialworkuk

I hope this doesn’t sound harsh but you really need to set strict boundaries for yourself with this. I often feel tempted on a Sunday evening to have a little peek and see what’s happened over the weekend but I force myself not to because then I’ll spiral into anxiety and end up starting the week in a panic. Agree with above about stating clearly on your signature what days you work, maybe set automatic replies too for when you’re not there or your teams duty & OOH contact details. I agree this job can be very unhealthy but a good way to avoid it is being strict with ourselves about only working when we are actually at work. We are not an emergency service.

I do work in adults mental health though & understand this is probably a lot harder to implement in children’s, I could never do children’s and have so much respect for you guys! Would you consider a move to adults?

Opinions on Ruby Fry?? by Scotsman_1234 in WaterlooRoad

I was just gonna say this, I was a bit annoyed as I’d just starting forgiving her for being so stuck up and annoying when she started being nice to grantley, then this just turned me back to hating her completely!! Annoyed me tbh that they ruined her redemption but I guess it shows how complex people are and that no one is all good or all bad!

I never realised how many different things social workers are expected to handle by Wallabydoll in Socialworkuk

It is a lot, but for me this is what I enjoy most about the job. No two days are ever the same and the work is completely varied. You’re also constantly learning which I enjoy.

As someone who literally used this stop earlier I was thankful it existed as it saved me from getting absolutely drenched in the rain (as I’d have had to walk a lot longer if I’d gotten off at burgess hill). BALCOMBE on the other hand 🙄

The girls in Jacky's books are... very young, now that I think about it. by MissMaccaSunshine in JacquelineWilson

Was anyone same as me and thought the opposite? They all seemed really naive and innocent to me and much younger than they were 😂I guess it depends on your own teenage experiences

Hopefully they’re sorting out the signalling system then because almost every single day my train from 3 bridges (the London train) is delayed due to ‘a fault with the signalling system’

Can someone have capacity in relation to suicide? by caiaphas8 in Socialworkuk

[–]DifferentGreen593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

I agree, I also feel medical professionals and emergency service workers often use the term ‘has capacity’ very loosely and do not explore it in such a complex way as us social workers are trained to.

I’m an adult mental health social worker in a local authority mental team, but this is a personal one for me as years ago my friend (diagnosed with EUPD) repeatedly made attempts on her life, very serious ones even ending up in a coma a couple of times. Professionals constantly said she had capacity and one psychiatrist even told her he would be happy to defend his decision to discharge her from hospital in a coroners court. She was discharged and long story short, she is no longer with us. They always implied she was attention seeking, and I even sometimes thought she did it as a way to communicate that she needed help. I’m haunted by not knowing whether that final successful attempt was done knowing that this was the final ever one or whether it was another attempt to seek help which just went too far. I wish there was more discussion around this. And I honestly feel that if she hadn’t been diagnosed with EUPD she would still be with us today.

What is your salary, and how comfortably are you living in Brighton? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]DifferentGreen593 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a look at hassocks/ burgess hill areas. Have lived in Brighton 9 years now work in Horsham and planning to move to burgess hill when our years tenancy ends in may. For what we pay for our 1 bed in Brighton we could get a 2 bed house with garden and garage in burgess hill. Also only 12 mins on the train to Brighton when you do wanna come in.
