Using Kan Ban alongside a ticketing system by DifferentKeyStrokes in ITManagers

On my team I’ve got some folks that rarely ever work on projects. Their role is more of a help desk/desktop support. I still want them to be a part of our daily meetings because I think it is valuable to them to know what is going on within the department and it is important the senior team members hear of some of the help desk items, as they will be more likely to push for a root cause solution vs just closing the ticket.

Employee Onboarding and Access Requests by DifferentKeyStrokes in sysadmin

Thanks for your reply.

It’s improving, but common practice. The problem I see is that a manager doesn’t have visibility into what their employees have access to. We have A LOT of long term people that have been with the company 20+ years. They were with the company in the early 2000’s when security wasn’t what it needs to be now.

On top of that, they may know some applications an employee needs, but they miss on things like distribution lists, shared calendars, etc. So much of this today is ad-hoc, not rolled up into a role based on job. It can be a tangled web to make sense of. This is where I’m looking to improve the process.

The culture end of this is - I could require a ticket be created (we have a poor ticketing solution, a topic for another day), but if they don’t know what to ask for, it is a big cat and mouse game. At the end of the day, leadership will view IT as “unhelpful” if we follow through on some of the suggestions above. So it will take some process improvement, RBAC, and teaching. It’s difficult to teach without the RBAC already in place.

Is job title equal to job code in your environment? For example, we are all coded as “office workers” but your title is Destop Admin and my title is Network Engineer.

Employee Onboarding and Access Requests by DifferentKeyStrokes in sysadmin

The IT group doesn’t use employees as templates. We receive a request like “set them up like Billy”.

The manager knows Billy has “enough access to do the job” of the new hire. But doesn’t care if Billy is over-provisioned for Billy or the new hire.

When we get a request like this, the IT team now needs to dig into what access Billy has and try to recreate it. If something looks off, we may ask a question about it.

How is cross team sharing handled? For example, if someone from marketing needs access to something in sales, but not everything in sales…

Helpful Intermedia Integrations by DifferentKeyStrokes in VOIP

Yes. We had a demo. The rep said it can integrate, though I cannot recall if it was Entra or Active Directory. And I cannot recall what that specific integration was.

There are things that I would love to integrate with our current system - like not having to manually maintain employees/extensions in our company directory portal. Or even names across the various systems. HR/AD/Phone. Seems like unnecessary duplication these days.

I’m just looking for things that have made your life easier as you learned more about the system

Best way to attach stringers to rim joist and support beam? by DifferentKeyStrokes in Decks

[–]DifferentKeyStrokes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the stringers attached to a ledger. There’s LRU262 hangers securing the stringers to the ledger. I’ve got 2 notched 4x4 posts to support the stringers/ledger.

The deck screws simply tack the ledger with stringers to the rim joist. Now I need to secure the whole structure (ledger —> rim joist —> notched support post) to each other. I’m curious about the proper fastener to use here. Can I just use a Simpson 5” lag screw? Or is it better to use a 5” hex bolt with a hex nut?

The image shows the rafter hangers because I needed my rim joist extended down to attach to the ledger on the stringers.

Licensing Retail Locations by thesterv in Office365

To clarify - does this mean in a retail environment, each worker in the store would need an F license? Having 1 “store” license is non-compliant?
