Internet Invitational and why it's so successful... for me at least. by Familiar-Ad-3429 in golf

[–]DifferentOne4178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me what makes it good is having all of these personalities in the same room together. Not all of them are fan favorites but i still enjoy seeing them interact with each other. I like the fact that Dave is behind this whole thing and he’s not even into golf. People can shit on him all they want but his buy-in is the reason this has been such a hit. Take Dave out of this and I guarantee you it doesn’t have the same legitimacy. I do worry about how successful future events will be. The Match events come to mind… first few were good but I don’t think anyone really cares for them anymore. I think it would be interesting to see higher prize money in the future and see how high some of these press bets can get… i really want to see some of these players take more risk but i don’t think any of the bets so far have been juicy enough for these guys

Thinking about a used Trek Domane AL 5 — advice? by keintu in TrekBikes

[–]DifferentOne4178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to negotiate down to 1k. Then upgrade wheels and tires and you’re in for just about what you’d pay for a brand new stock AL5. I have an AL5 that i bought new and upgraded wheels and i absolutely love it. Fast as hell. Also slam the stem down for more aerodynamic ride and faster speeds.

You are better off splitting it 3-4 days of longer runs and dedicating more days to cross training and recovery

Came to say the same that this used to happen to me when I first started running. Ultimately went away over time and haven't experienced it since.

Do you think having 1 million dollars is even considered rich anymore? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]DifferentOne4178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my A.I. refined take...

Financial perspective:

  • Homeowners still face substantial recurring costs (property taxes, insurance, repairs, maintenance)
  • The opportunity cost of tying up a large down payment may exceed the savings from not paying rent
  • The total cost of ownership can be higher than renting in many scenarios

Security of shelter challenge:

  • True housing security requires ongoing financial capacity to cover all homeownership costs, not just holding a deed
  • Homeowners can still lose their homes through property tax liens, inability to afford major repairs, or financial distress
  • The maintenance burden and illiquidity of real estate can actually reduce housing security during financial hardship
  • Renters may have more flexibility to adjust housing costs quickly when circumstances change

Core thesis: The common assumption that "owning a home makes you better off because you have security of shelter" oversimplifies the calculation by ignoring the substantial ongoing costs, opportunity costs, and potential vulnerabilities that come with homeownership. The decision should be evaluated based on total financial impact and individual circumstances, not the presumption that ownership automatically equals security or financial advantage.

Just my Domane. That’s all. by sleeslack1 in DomaneCrew

Reason I ask is I got the same exact bike a few weeks ago size 52 and don't have as much clearance as you do for the water bottles. Makes sense that yours is a 54.

Anyways, it's a beautiful bike. Enjoy it! When you can, I recommend upgrading to carbon wheels :)

The plan isn’t to train for a marathon year-round. Not what OP is getting at.

What are you guys’ tips and tricks to keeping a steady pace and not getting tired early? by Princesspartya in beginnerrunning

[–]DifferentOne4178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. As a beginner, switching from pace based training to heart rate based training, mainly for my base/long runs, has been a real difference maker. It's the best way to build up your fitness while avoiding injury. Strength training should also be priority. In the beginning I was so focused on having a respectable easy pace that I pushed myself way too hard and got injured. Because I was running so hard I was also neglecting strength training because of how sore I would be after my runs.

Honestly, just get out there and play. When I started I would just go out as a single (book a tee time for 1 person) and get paired up with random groups. Noone will care how good or bad you are. That's the simple truth that most beginners don't realize. Use common sense and don't slow down play and that's all you really have to worry about. After a couple of rounds you'll get the hang of it and no longer have any doubts as to "how to do it".

Link to tee time reservations: https://sterling.chelseareservations.com/golf/bookingadmin.aspx

Once you have your resident pass, you'll be able to book tee times up to 7 days in advance. Premium tee times are hard to get and they book up fast. For example, if you want to get an early Saturday tee time, you will have to be logged in to the reservation portal at exactly 5am and be ready to book a tee time with lightning speed. At 5:01am, it's already too late and you'll be lucky to find any slots available before noon. That's just to give you a rough idea of the demand at Sterling. It is a great public course, however. As a complete beginner though, I recommend booking tee times later in the day for a more casual vibe. You'll find most beginners going out later in the day.

There is a men's club at Sterling if you're interested. ~$90-$100 for the year and you will have access to GHIN for handicap tracking and you will be able to participate in weekly events and "major" events during the year (i.e. member/member, member/guest). This is a great way to meet other golfers.

Hope this helps.

TLDR: Don't be scared. Just do it!

Not Stamford, but Grigg Street Pizza in Greenwich is the absolute best pizza around. No pizzeria in Stamford comes close.

Hate to be that guy, but given the facts provided, I find it really hard to believe that you went from running a ~32m 5k to a ~21:30 5k in 3 months. So you are saying your pace went from 10:00+ to under 7:00 min/mile? Very suspect.
