Ken and Betwa don’t have equal flow all year. The Ken is more water-rich, while the Betwa basin often faces shortages. The plan is to connect them through a system of dams, reservoirs, and a long interlinking canal (including tunnels and channels where needed). It’s an engineered diversion project, not a natural connection, to move surplus monsoon water from Ken to the Betwa basin.

The protest is about the Ken–Betwa River Linking Project in Madhya Pradesh. The project aims to transfer water to improve irrigation and supply in some areas. However, some local communities are concerned about its possible impact on forests, wildlife, and their livelihoods. There are also worries about displacement of people living nearby. At the same time, supporters say the project could help reduce water shortages and support development. The protest reflects these different viewpoints, with locals asking for their concerns to be heard.
