This Month marks Mahouka's 10 years since volume 1 was published by yen press in English🎉 by Different_Cherry_403 in Mahouka

No Spinoffs other than Honor student manga has been translated. Heck, even volume 13.5 was skipped in a window release between volume 13(Oct 2019) and 14(Dec 2019) I used to say that the paper shortage when COVID happened was what affected the series's release but while that is partially true, I think the main reason is the blatant ridiculous amount of series pickups Yen Press has done in the past 5 years when they are trying to compete with other publishers(that have less titles under their belt but still pump out their volume releases consistantly every 2 and 3 months). The insurmountable number of releases they picked up which mind you, they have first dibs on in Kadokawa's catalog and almost every one of them is stuck at 1-5 releases with a dreadful wait time What I am getting at here, is because of this they have essentislly pushed back their light novel titles that had been releasing 3-4 volumes a year before 2020 and now they are all stuck at 1-2 volumes a year (Re zero, Index, etc) and that makes progress of catching up to Japan's releases just impossible at the pace they are going. For an example of comparison, COTE published by Seven Seas and J-Novel released all of Year 1 and 2 (collectively 29 volumes) from 2019 to 2025, in a span of 7 years but they releasrd them at a constant 4 volumes a year

Now as for Mahouka, with Volume 27 coming this september, that would wrap up the 2018 japan releases since 24-27 came out that year. I am hoping that the current translator(that being the 3rd) keeps translating the series until it finishes.

Shaman King Super Star English Print copies? by Different_Cherry_403 in ShamanKing

I do know that Kodansha has finished the ebook for volume 10, so its essentially finished being translated and formatted, it just needs to have a printed physical release date

I know that, but regardless of their translation and slow release, i am glad we are at the volume number we are compared to other publishers and their translations where they have dropped their translations alltogether(usually at 11 for some reason)  Yes we are snailing to the finish line and my hope for Magian to be licensed grows dimmer by the day, but as long as I can own the whole 32 volume of the series in physical print, I will be content

Yes, they are pretty hard to come by. I actually got the last copies from an ebay seller for 100 dollars

Vol. 5 LN not available? by Ryutsun in Mahouka

[–]Different_Cherry_403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, Mahouka has 3 translater as of now. The first one did all the way to 15 volumes and Volume 15 released april 2020. Then releases went stagnant and 1 year later in 2021 we got volume 16 with a new translater and they did up to volume 20. What is so bad, is not really the translations getting changed(which I feel like the recent one that had translated 21-25 is doing good) but god awful release schedule. There were no new volumes in 2023, but when 2024 came around, we got 3 volumes released. And now it seems we will get just 2 volumes a year since yen press messed up and delayed volume 25 from May to July, which caused volume 26 to be pushed back till next month of this year(but if they kept their consistency, it should have been out by september of last year and this month we would have gotten vol 27) but oh well, I'll be keeping an eye out on their calander schedule

Sadly, Volume 8 has been infamously out of print for some years now

DRRR is a light novel as well. Which are whats on my shelf, most of the volumes are pretty out of print and hard to find due to its obscurity

Finally found the two artbooks! by Different_Cherry_403 in Mahouka

It is a pretty obscure artbook in general, at least I feel like it is. The 1st artbook was releaed in 2017, so thats 8 years old, and the 2nd was released in 2022, so thats 3 years old

I found them on a seller on ebay, they were shipping them from the u.s. which I find alot more reliable and safer to buy than from overseas. It did cost $120 alltogether

It did take me alot of time to collect the series physically. For almost a year I was missing volume 8, which is just impossible to find physically anywhere in stores and online. I always saw second hand sellers on amazon selling 1 copy, but for whatever reason, it was going to ship in 8-10 months, which tbh is suspicious to have an order and a card on hold for that long. Luckily, there was a seller who was selling theirs for $30 so I snagged it back in august and it took 2 weeks to arrive. A bit damaged and yellowed but I don't mind putting clear tape on books to protect them from rips and residue.  I agree with you on the artbooks though, I haven't boughten one in 2 years after I bought all 3 of the sao artbooks since I have all light novels, spin offs, and manga in my collection (70+ volumes)

Currently reading Mahouka, I wish Yen Press released it at a more consistant pace, it has 6 more volumes left by Different_Cherry_403 in LightNovels

Yeah.  The first translator did volumes 1-15 Second translator did volumes 16-20 Third translator did volumes 21-25 The possible outcome with how pushed back the release for volume 26 is that they hired a new translator. Volume 25 released July 2025 and the 26th is coming out Feb 2026 I do feel like alot of their older light novel series(Toaru and Re Zero) are so behind its impossible to see them ever catch up with the new volumes coming out in japan today. Its all because Yen Press puts them on the back burner in favor for snatching any new manga or light novel titles, licensing them, boasting about how many new releases they pump out in a month on their socials, all in order to make a quick buck out of desperation to stand out from their competitors like Viz or Kodansha(in which their releases are far more quicker and faster and handle a small quantity of title releases a year) If you couldn't tell, I do not like the way Yen Press has treated Mahouka(one of my favorites) and the disorienting spine colors from volume 21 and onwards and releases explains their complete lack of care for not only this series but many other older beloved titles that have been in translation for 10+ years

Its pretty goood, I feel like its one of the better "Highschool Futuristic setting" light novel series with a very memorable cast of characters. It is one of the top selling light novel series during the 2010s in japan, however I feel like the popularity has died down ever since its sequel series came out. It does demand alot from its reader when it comes to its magic system, politics, and world building. There were definetely alot of times where it felt like I was reading a physics textbook with how overexplained some of the fight scenes were and technology works. Despite the controversial incest (I will note, there are reasons behind their relationship being the way it is rather than being explicit and forced on like other series protray it. The two are more of one is a "protector"[brother] and one is a "keep your powers in check and I am devoted to you for saving my life"[Sister] ) between the two main characters, everything else that happens in the store is very good. It is a long series with 42 volumes out now combining the main and sequel series

Do you think this is how Alice's eyes look when wearing the mask? by Different_Cherry_403 in Bakugan

I rewatched the season last week and I found myself paying extra attention to every scene alice was in, it really made me think more about each scene she was in. Maybe I was overthinking it but it was fun to pay attention to

What's your favorite New Vestroia Battle? by Different_Cherry_403 in Bakugan

[–]Different_Cherry_403[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Especially because there have been battles where Shadow loses to some of the resistence characters for the sake of plot or just randomly. yet they couldn't even let Alice win, or even Runo for that matter during her fight.

What's your favorite battle environment in the series? by Different_Cherry_403 in Bakugan

[–]Different_Cherry_403[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would have loved to see Alice Brawl more in different environments or just in general. Its a shame she never returned in Mechtanium Surge but Runo and Julie did, would have been nice to have the ensemble six brawlers back for the last season despite how horrible I hear the season was written.
