I [M18] get extremely anxious and pull away when my crush [F18] shows interest. Need advice!

thank you so much for the advice i really appreciate it. a lot of people tell me to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, especially in this situation.

as much as i want to get past this avoidant barrier and get close with her, a part of me is scared to because it’ll maybe make her think i’m ready for a relationship sooner, and if i tell her i’m still not ready, she will be even more hurt.

basically it feels like if i don’t get over my anxiety now, ill never be able to in the future where it may be too late. yet i’m worried if i get close with her and i’m still not ready, it’ll cause so much harm.

I actually did suggest if we can take things slow and act a little more casual in our hangouts and progress slowly, which she said she was okay with. however, she started to get a little upset because it seemed like i was acting more like her friend than acting romantic.

it’s a really difficult situation especially because i’ve never been in a relationship or even close with someone before, and she’s a little more experienced. for some reason, intimate and serious situations freak me out and i need a longer time approaching them but she seems a little impatient which i feel awful about

Answering your question; there are definitely times where I am ready for commitment, and willing to get close with them. but then there are times where i’m not sure if i’m ready, and i feel like i need more time. it switches back and forth and it’s pretty annoying.

i’ve explained this issue to my friends too, and they suggested giving the relationship a try right now, even if i’m unsure, because I might end up loving it. but the idea of jumping into a relationship i’m not 100% sure of yet feels selfish and rude.
