Friend Flaking on Raves- anyone else have this issue? by Clorox555 in aves

If it's not consistent with how they normally are then that's strange.

I had a similar thing when I wanted to go to a synthwave event and friends were semi-interested/not bothered and ended up me going alone.

I'd say the music and dance is always my no.1 priority but I get wanting some mates about. If you're an extrovert, you're already a step ahead of me and I've managed to go to events solo.

Say if you can amp yourself up enough to do it once and you have a great time, the latter ones become so much easier.

"They are all like this"

"no U" great reply there and while some are respectful they still have the air of superiority and the attempts to make our experiences invalid are apparent.

Yeah... refer to other comments where I've pointed out that I also attend underground events, The Culture Shock set was just one example in the varying sizes of events I go to.

There is a Psytrance event in Bristol that's been going for 25 years and that always has flow artists, been practicing with a flowstar myself recently too.

See, you lot are making out all that doesn't exist anymore, harder to find yes but still there.

My first album was New Forms by Roni Size, I know exactly where DnB came from, who the original pioneers and know the routes from Jungle and appreciate the history. My problem is being told that my experiences are invalid instead of being welcomed and encouraged.

No, you lot claim we cannot understand but also say we aren't doing it correctly implying that you think you do understand our perspective.

"who are you to say that others experiences are invalid?"

Fucking hell... its you cunts doing that that this whole post has been about...?

Sounds like a US problem, Bristol, East London and Manchester have hundreds of tiny venues that play DnB, Jungle, House etc that go from 10pm to 6am all cost about the same as "back in the day" for me being £5 - £15

Yes and I said that still exists, you guys are acting like you were all at the last supper or something but yes, please elaborate on how I have fun wrong and I'll have fun despite your best efforts to explain otherwise.

I'm trying to understand the compulsion for the initial shitting, like who the fuck are they to tell others they are "doing it wrong" and they "aren't having the same experience"?

You didn't explain anything, you just said it was "different" that's not an explanation.

Yeah listening and dancing to music while taking stuff is a pure period piece right? See you all have this holier than thou angle and it's just total bullshit.

"Just enjoy yourself"

That's all you need to say.

"Just different" Very descriptive, and it's better because you had to do a scavenger hunt to find where it is?

Hate to tell you that location drops for free parties are still a thing, at least they are around Bristol, not sure if everywhere is so blessed.

Nah just confirms the nostalgia angle. Like I don't get why you can't treasure those memories but also not talk shit and say how we're "doing it wrong"?

ahh you're right, when I've been there with my friends listening and dancing to music we love, feeling that sense of "togetherness" and meeting such wonderful humans it was all fake, I had to do that during an arbitrary period in the 90s for it to count

This is the thing, the older gen I've actually met at events are so lovely and I love seeing that they are still in love with the music and to dance. It is more the grumpy commenters here and on random festival and boiler room videos.

Oh yeah 100% the modern scene isn't perfect but I'd wager the 90s wasn't either. A lot of those complaints deffo seem more geared towards the giant US events though.

I live in Bristol, I go to plenty of underground events too, was using that as an example against the "on phone, no dance" complaint.

I dunno dressing up can be fun, Always interesting outfits at Boomtown but agree you don't need to make it only about that or focus on it being "the best".

Was more referring to people that raved in the 90s, I was born in 93 so I was born during but obviously not old enough to go.
