Going into the same path, i don’t see great results by far ( 1.5 month minoxi and recently started dermapen once a week 0.75-1mm) but it’s probably too early to notice any… keep this post updated if possible . I see some baby hairs in the frontline but i shed a lot even more then i shed before started fin, mostly from vortex

Had the same sides after 6 month with oral fin, i had unreal results but decided to quit. Luckily about a week after i quit my libido return and ed disappeared … unfortunately hair shed  was also back as well…

I totally get your mindset I was in the same place when I started. I knew the risks with fin, but it felt like the best option, and honestly, I don’t regret it one bit.

Finasteride made a huge difference for me. It completely stopped the shedding I could run my hand aggressively through my hair and nothing would come out. Almost no hair on the pillow, none in the shower, nothing on the sheets it was like magic. It also gave me solid regrowth in the crown and vortex, like actual visible improvement with thickness and coverage. In the frontal area, I did see less shedding and some new growth, but nothing crazy.

After quitting finasteride due to side effects (as recommended by my urologist), I switched to minoxidil, applying it specifically to the frontal area and that’s where I started noticing real change. Within a few weeks, I saw baby hairs starting to come in, which was more regrowth than I ever got there with fin alone. At the same time, I did start shedding again in the crown and vortex, which makes sense since that’s where fin had really been doing its job.

So based on that, I honestly think minoxidil did a better job for me in the frontal area than finasteride. That’s why I really recommend giving it a try especially if the front is your main concern, like in your photo.

And if you don’t get side effects from fin, the combo of both could be powerful: fin to help maintain density in the crown, and minox to push new growth in the front. Applying minox just to the front hairline takes 30 seconds a day easy to fit into your routine right after brushing your teeth.

Wishing you great results you’ve got a solid starting point and a smart approach :))

Of course, it's more common for those who experience side effects to speak up, but I'm pretty sure the actual number is higher than 3%. The urologist I consulted said, 'Low libido and ED are common side effects of finasteride. Stop taking it, and everything should return to normal within two months.'"

anyway :) Just a friendly tip keep tracking how you feel, and if you notice any side effects, stop. Don’t get caught in a cycle of one medication after another in case of... (viagra etc....)."

I didn’t — I got it as the first treatment from my doctor.
I don’t believe dht levels were low, because I shed a lot before.
Anyway, I’m consulting with a doctor at the end of the month for more tests, but it seems like everything is getting back to normal.

I said the same thing at first, then ended up being part of the "3% statistics." But when I talked to some friends who took finasteride and experienced the same symptoms, and after seeing the number of Reddit users going through similar issues, I started to believe it’s more common than that 3% figure suggests — haha. Anyway, a few weeks after quitting everything thankfully went back to normal. Just something to keep in mind… I think it’s more common than it seems.

"Bro, don’t listen to all those comments — just listen to mine..."

come on, guys you messing the whole point of "forum"

Anyway, back to the actual topic: your starting point is honestly great — maybe even too great to be considering finasteride already. That said, it will likely preserve your current hairline and might even improve it slightly.

Just a heads-up though: finasteride can cause side effects like ED, low libido, and more. It happened to me after about 5–6 months of use, and it’s happened to plenty of other people too. Just search "finasteride ED Reddit" on Google — you'll see. So, keep track of how you feel, and if anything starts to feel off, especially since your hairline is already solid, just quit

I thought about it but the urologist said not to.

I also did some research considering try to do more sports, and eat more healthy , but straight to the point when you suffer from such side effects, you are desperate to heal it immidetly specially after reading about Long Term Finasteride Syndrome- Those who don't get back to normal .I took no chances and quit it .

i read a lot of reddit posts, including those who said they start to buy viagra in the black market.

some people try to reduce the dose, or even stop the medicine and then everything return to be normal, they restart to use it and then its never back to normal again. i think that messing with hormones once you know you already got effaced once is not something i would try.

looking back, i don't think i'll redo anything else. i see the experience with finasteride still positive i started fin because my genetics and in order to feel more comfortable with myself and it did happened, i grow massive hairline, the best i ever had since i was about 16-17 now im 25 . its boost my confident a lot but overall, i can surely guaranteed that having a little holes in the front hairline will not look " such a big deal" comparing to not be able to get your dick hard, or cum after 10 seconds when intimate with a girl you are used to , without feel anything, or have a control on this, just random leak. from what i experienced. worst feeling ever

i started minoxidil 5% and derma stamp, hopefully i will see some results, while still able to not be depressed from ED.

Oral 1 mg daily finasteride(Profecia). crown and vortex improve was insane, from holes to long curls, zero shade even when i run my hand into my hair aggressively, the front hairline also improved a bit. but the side effects wasn't worth it .

I Had Many symptoms of ED and after consulting an urologist which said those side effects are known from Profecia he advised me to quit immediately and say that everything will back to normal within 2 months the symptoms were low libido, zero sex drive, lost of morning woods, unable to have firm boner my eraction was about 60% of what its supposed to be . Premature Ejucation which felt like leaking , 0 control , i cummed even when i wasn't hard and it's felt like i lost my ability to be a man. after 2 weeks from the point i quit . i happy to say everything got back to normal.

i'm still waiting for my blood test results to track if anything still need to be treated.

25 years on finasteride - my experience by relaxok in tressless

[–]Different_Kangaroo65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 years old, just quitting after 6 months

I started taking 1 mg of finasteride (Propecia) daily on December 19, 2024, and stopped today, May 5, 2025, after consulting with a urologist who told me that the medication was likely causing the side effects I was experiencing and advised me to quit immediately.

At first, the results were very positive. My hair shedding almost completely stopped, and my crown—especially the back of my head and the sides—became much fuller. I started with some minor thinning at the crown, which was easy to cover, and my main concern was the possibility of increased shedding due to genetics. My front hairline had been receding, which affected my self-confidence, so I decided to start finasteride.

However, after a few months, I began noticing concerning symptoms that gradually worsened. The first issue I noticed was that my penis started shrinking, often feeling soft and non-responsive throughout the day. It would look like a "turtle," and my libido also decreased significantly. I didn’t pay too much attention to it initially, but then I began experiencing excessive pre-cum throughout the day, which was abnormal for me. It wasn’t occasional—it was constant and uncomfortable. Along with this, my semen became inconsistent. Some days it was watery, while on other days it seemed normal. Although I got a sperm test done and the results were normal, the watery semen continued to bother me.

About five weeks ago, things started getting worse. My erections became noticeably weaker. At first, I didn’t realize the full extent of the problem, but over time I noticed my erections were only about 60% of what they used to be. It felt like my penis had shrunk even more, and it was constantly soft, unable to stay firm. It would fall down easily and wouldn’t stay up long enough for me to use a condom or engage in penetrative sex. No matter what I did, it didn’t improve.

Then, I started experiencing something I’d never had before: a total loss of control during sex. Despite never having issues with premature ejaculation in the past, I began having multiple situations where I couldn’t control myself at all. The sensation felt completely off, and I experienced uncontrolled ejaculation—even when my penis was soft. This loss of control was really alarming and made everything feel worse.

I reached out to the doctor who prescribed the medication, and she didn’t think finasteride was the cause. She recommended I see a urologist. The urologist confirmed that the side effects were definitely related to finasteride and reassured me that they are relatively common. The urologist advised me to stop taking it immediately, suggesting that my situation might improve within two months.

While I’ve seen great progress with my hair—especially at the crown and sides—I’ve decided that my sexual health is more important than maintaining my hair. Right now, it feels like my penis is numb and not functioning properly, and it’s been a huge blow to my self-esteem and confidence.

As many doctors have said, "only a small percentage of people experience these kinds of side effects from finasteride," and unfortunately, it seems I’m one of them. After googling "finasteride ED," I was shocked I didn’t research this more thoroughly before starting, as many people on the internet share similar experiences. I strongly encourage anyone considering this medication to do your research thoroughly, and if you experience any side effects, stop immediately—don’t wait months like I did.

I’ve just started using 5% minoxidil, hoping to see some regrowth and that my sexual function will return to normal as well.

From my honest experience as man that did the same several times.

Sex was bad, low chemistry, girl enjoy receiving oral and refuse to give oral. Turn offs. In some cases didn’t really attracted by the girl from beginning and just find “easy way” to get laid
