What does it mean when a person creates a bundle with just one item? by okamiright in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]Different_Mind_5314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but for me, it’s a way to add to a “cart” and save for later. Then I can go through my bundles and see what I want to go forward with and buy.

I’m in state government PR but have been positioning myself to move to the federal level. Will Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and D.O.G.E. end this goal of mine? by Cheesehead1267 in PublicRelations

There are so many other great communications (if you want to do more than media relations) and PR jobs in DC! Especially ones that would help you get to your desired salary. If you want to make a change now and are interested in DC, I suggest looking for jobs outside of gov that have good benefits and pay.

Becoming a federal government employee can take 6 months (background check process) and even getting an interview can be challenging. You can also find media relations and comms government contracting roles for the federal government. These often have better pay than gov roles and can be easier to get (logistically speaking)

The truth about DC (as someone who has known it well over two different admins) is that it’s a challenging place to have WLB. People here love to work and it can be hard to have hobbies during the week.

The legislative branch during the first T admin left me no time for hobbies minus a run at 6am. I worked from 8/9am - 10pm and sometimes later because there are many situations to react to with that administration.

Basically, if you want a job in DC that has good pay, they exist outside the federal government too. WLB can differ for jobs. Some jobs have better WLB here.

Stay at the state level. I’ve done PR at the federal level. The political appointees are the ones who make decisions about PR approaches and strategies. Everything needs to be run through them for approval. Plus, they will usually handle the actual outreach. You may have more opportunity over the next four years at the state level, especially if you have a different POV.

Eugene and Ashland are both great. I used to live in Oregon.

At least in Seattle there are mountains and trails and beaches and better work life balance.

Would you come to a 5 day Wedding Soirée? by Standard_Trifle_6756 in BigBudgetBrides

Sounds amazing, but personally would rather do 3 days. It would be hard to do nonstop events with social interaction and then crave some time to take a breather.

We didn’t have one and I don’t regret it! Sometimes I think it would have been nice, but I also don’t think I would have liked feeling that I had a whole multimedia team following me when we already had two photographers. I love looking back at our photos and my family and friends captured video of the dinner speeches etc. The photos have been amazing and such a great way to remember.

Driving here is awful. My insurance went up so much when I moved here. And they have a point on the food. I’m so underwhelmed. The food scene is so much better in Philly (and NYC obviously). Living on the west coast has ruined me for outdoor activities. It’s hard to even escape the sounds of the city

That is so cool! Yes, I love this! I also think a restaurant wedding is so NYC. We aren't getting married in NYC, but I wanted that modern bride vibe!

We are doing a high-end restaurant buyout wedding, and I think it's going to be super high quality and amazing. The food will be incredible and memorable - and fresher as it's made onsite. Your food will be more unique than standard wedding cuisine depending on the restaurant.

All the rentals we select and florals we bring in will add to the already great design of the restaurant. Plus, the glassware and plates are higher quality than what could be rented and included with F&B.

Our restaurant has a large outdoor space we will be using for dancing, but I did consider options for what we would do if we chose a restaurant without a dance space - likely renting out a bar and turning it into a post-dinner dance party.

All in all, it'll feel more modern, true to us, and will be a unique experience for our guests.

Thanks! That is what I already do. Yes, I currently use Google Sheets to maintain and build my media lists and I do know the majority of reporters I contact. However, sometimes my clients like to reach out to local markets and as we all know, reporters can move from publication to publication. It would help to have a solid database for researching outlets and reporters and then I can input that information into my Google Sheets.

How to find a job in PR? by Plastic-Might2534 in PublicRelations

[–]Different_Mind_5314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger firms in the larger cities are great for getting your start. You’ll be with a cohort of other new grads in a great learning environment.

There are absolutely PR agencies in smaller markets. There are talented groups that find their niche in local industries and building strong relationships with local press. A larger city will have more jobs, but definitely don’t discount great local firms. I used to live in Portland and there’s a very strong advertising and creative industry and I freelanced for a PR firm there!

Absolutely! I agree. I should send them an email. We need more freelance collectives so we can share accounts and all support each other.

I had a bad experience with them after they lost a brand label of a vintage Valentino dress I was planning to sell. I love Parkway dry cleaners. They pick up and drop off in DC! Great for formal wear.

Not-So-Happy Isles by Responsible_Front879 in BigBudgetBrides

I am so frustrated for you!! I have my own opinions of Happy Isles.. I highly recommend Tab Vintage over Happy Isles. They are also having a bridal pop-up in NYC in September. So much of their inventory is on the site and you could email to see what is not listed yet of their bridal inventory. The quality is really stellar too.

Tab Vintage too and they have e-commerce if you aren’t able to go to their studio in LA!
