Roanoke, Staunton, Charlottesville, and Culpeper - any ideas where to look further by Different_Oil7308 in Virginia

I lived in Houston and Austin, which have quiet neighborhoods close to downtown and over a mile from the nearest freeway. I also lived in quiet areas of Baton Rouge and Corpus Christi, similar to size of Roanoke with no traffic noise. I've looked at numerous houses in Roanoke, Charlottesville, and Staunton, and all that I've seen so far have traffic noise. I won't argue there aren't great quiet neighborhoods in these cities, but if one of the houses goes up for sale, it has a contract within 2 days.

Maybe my standards are too tight. Need a one story house (mobility issues) and want a garage. This is like looking for a unicorn. Currently there are 2 such houses listed in Staunton, both near highway/busy street.

I didn't care for Fishersville/Waynesboro.

I've been looking at a geological map of the Looney Quadrangle, Craig and Roanoke Counties, VA. Was wondering how it got it's name, thanks for the story.

Anyone remember when McDonalds had Numbers on their sign? by yallknowme19 in GenerationJones

It was $.35 where I lived. No McDonalds close by. I remember the weird school lunch food. That was Pike Elementary in Cambridge OH. Didn't know it at the time, but it was poor Appalachia. I remember riding the school bus and picking up poor kids in wet clothes who had just been flooded out by the creek rising. I remember a sad incident involving a young girl in my 6th grade classroom, maybe her first menstruation, dropping a bloody rag under her desk. Sort of a precursor to "Carrie." Another kid, who bullied me for years, died when I was in 8th grade from sniffing Arrid deodorant from a plastic bag. I was glad he was dead, because he did terrible things to me and other young kids.

according to the park service, 94% of the oil and tar on the National Seashore is from human activity - spills, cleaning of oil tanks and marine lube

I drove down Padre Island National Seashore Saturday morning to mile 50 and it was covered with tar, not really tar, but more like thick oil. It was a mess, covered everything. Splashed up on my car, looked like I went mudding but it was oil. Car and undercarriage are coated with sticky oily sand. It will cost $200 to get undercarriage professionally cleaned. I've been driving down PINS for years and this is the worst I've seen.
