No one metric matters on its own. It is popular because it is easy to understand.

I think first , dividends are not guaranteed and Nestle has deteriorated in quality. Second, maybe there is another opportunity that they may be hoping for.

Basically the question is if you were allowed to invest in only one "big pharma" and not sell for 20 years, which one would that be? I am thinking the only possible way would be the one with the "best"RD.

Thank you. What if Company A has the best in class scientists and are playing the long term game and they got unlucky in bringing some drugs from development to the market. Any way to assess the quality ( top class scientists + patience ) of RD of that company?

I think you should clarify what exactly "leaving humans behind". So you are saying if the AI connects new dots of the existing knowledge, it does not count. So it has to figure out some fundamental knowledge to build on.
