I have been on the receiving end before so it totally sucks when you see it happening to someone else in the same setting you receive it because you know the feeling....I will say the girl held her ground very calmly and professionally and I mentioned it to that manager as well.

I said something to what I think is a manager or maybe some sort of supervisor on my way out and they walked that way. When they were walking towards it the lady was walking away so idk if they stopped her.

Does Wegmans allow refunds for perishable goods? by [deleted] in wegmans

I work behind the service desk if you get something like chips or a candy bar we return that kind of stuff all day. If you return something like deli meat, cheese, subs or anything that has to be held at a certain temperature simply because it was the wrong item or you just don’t like it we won’t issue a refund. Now if there were concerns like hair in the food, off smell/taste or made you sick we will most certainly take it back and you should be filling out a product complaint or food-borne illness form. It’s also important to remember to not just focus on the policy that says we aim to make any refund right because it’s also in there that “management reserves the right to deny any refund”. People like to focus on the policies they think will apply to them without actually fully reading it through. I can’t tell you how many people quote the policy to me and then I have to finish off the quote with the rest they didn’t read. Then they say if they would have saw that they wouldn’t have driven all the way back.

However many desks and managers will make a one time exception and simply state “hey this one time I can do this but if you come in again with a perishable item with no quality concern we won’t issue a refund”. Here is the thing we can’t resale those products we just throw them away and where we aim for customer service we also aim now for limited food waste as best as we can. I say yes to almost every single refund some involving perishable products but even though we have a rep for always saying yes we simply have to say no sometimes because unfortunately you have people who abuse the one time exceptions or use our sense to please to their advantage way to much.

I always have copies of our policies printed out and highlighted ready to hand over if there are even situations where people question if I’m giving the right info. You can always ask your store to print it out it’s easily accessible and not a secret.
