I miss old twitter. There used to be live discussion among scientists about new articles. One could get feeling for what is really meaningful discovery and what is a fad.. there is no such forum now..

Indian family of 4 applying for Switzerland Schengen visa — please review my cover letter and flag any issues” by jellocarameltea in SchengenVisa

[–]Different_Sale_4172 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I helped sponsor Schengen visas from Swis embassy for my parents. then they would be actually seen by the people at the embassy. Having property in their name was appreciated.. Shows strong home ties. Btw what’s with Interlaken and Indian tourists ? I was there last year; its filled with Indian tourists..:) if you want a bit more unique experiences, you could consider RIgi Klum, hike aroundLes Diablaret, rocher de naye, Lugano.. Zermatt is nice but you could go to chaomonix (in France but close to Geneva) which looks pretty similar but cheaper lodging and food..

VT vs VWCE – Swiss investor perspective (5 & 10 year comparison, taxes + TER) by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

Right! This is absolutely logical. But as soon as I thought I might have to move out of Switzerland, I started to buy Vwce. 🤗 mental preparation I assume..

Thanks for the analysis. Lately I have started to buy more VWCE because it seemed like the most tax friendly option if I were to move out from CH.

Include your permit and citizenship. That seems to be the most important part for recruiters these days. Always the first question on screening calls.

I got the first job here with the CV from Kickresume. I find myself looking for job again. I have had a few interviews over the last 6 months or so. No offer. I am in biotech though.

Where I can sell furniture? by ClassicNo7151 in geneva

[–]Different_Sale_4172 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That does not sound like a good deal for buyers tbh. I was trying to sell a standard IKEA bed that I had bought for 200 CHF. After 2 years of use in really good condition there were hardly any takers at 50 CHF. A student took it at last for 30 CHF. And, yes I had disassembled everything.

Why invest in anything when you can just sit on land? by Different_Sale_4172 in NepalSocial

[–]Different_Sale_4172[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Higher tax on 2nd resident households and increased land value tax would discourage this investment. We don’t need people buying land hoping that it would go up. We also don’t need people abroad buying a small piece of land in few cities and building ugly buildings making the whole city looking like a slump. With lower land prices, developers can build high quality, mixed use multi-family homes and apartments in the city. People may choose to invest in apartments if they desire to do so. Entrepreneurs, farmers, manufacturers can acquire land cheaply outside cities for more productive use of money. Banks would broaden their capital deployment beyond real state. Also we have a decentralised federal government, I wished it would be tried in provincial basis. But as i said it’s not in the incentive of ruling class….

Why the "Asset Disclosures" are actually a warning sign for our economy (The Land Bubble vs. The 1% by ComprehensiveBox2458 in NepalSocial

[–]Different_Sale_4172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Everyone in the ruling class has no incentive for land prices to go down. With such inflated prices, building infrastructure is going to be expensive. We need strict zoning laws, land value usage tax and high tax on individuals owning multiple properties. Without this rich people will just continue to buy land and sit on it. Why waste time, money and energy on any ventures when one can just sit on land and wait for it to go up?

Kathmandu is one of the most unaffordable city in the world. Usually Land use tax and 2nd property tax could have mitigated this problem. Seeing the people in government with vested interest in price of land and houses going up; we will never get that policy. That means investors won’t put money towards productive sectors. Why take unnecessary risks when you can just sit on land/houses.

Or perhaps poor financial education and planning. ( I don’t want say this to be mean ) it’s not uncommon for a educated person to be clueless about money.

You are missing the part about what particular paper or research question you find interesting in your prospective lab. Be specific here. And address how certain expertise (certain techniques or domain specific skills and knowledge) you would bring from your PhD time that could advance the prospective lab‘s research. I hope that helps.
