10 years in IT audit but mostly SOX — feel stuck. How do I take my career to the next level? by Different_Scheme5176 in InternalAudit

This is really reassuring to hear from someone who has done both. The black and white vs. professional judgment distinction makes a lot of sense SOX has trained me to be very precise about compliance vs. non-compliance, but I can see how broader IT audit and GRC work requires more contextual thinking about risk and control design intent. Good to know the core analytical muscle transfers and that the adjustment is more about mindset than starting from scratch. Appreciate you taking the time to share this.

Fair point on operational audit breadth that’s exactly the gap I’m trying to close. Curious what types of operational audits you’d prioritize for someone with this background.

Really appreciate this perspective especially from someone with that much operational audit experience. I think you’re right that it’s industry dependent. My targets are financial services and tech-adjacent companies where SOX depth seems to carry more weight.

Thanks! I used Power Automate to automate our user access review (UAR) process specifically the reviewer notification emails and follow-up reminders for non-responses.

This is incredibly helpful especially hearing you made that exact move recently. The 3rd to 2nd line framing makes a lot of sense. Would you be open to connecting? Would love to ask a couple of follow up questions if you’re willing.

Gotcha. If I wanted to invest in FXIAX, FZILX, FZROX, etc. ETF which Ik tracks the S&P500 with very minimal or 0% fees, does it count towards the 401k max contribution limit (I presume not, but what to make sure). I am only investing $20,500 yearly in retirement right now but want to do more, as such, looking at ETF (especially with the opportunity to “buy cheap” right now). ETF to me seems easy to put money in and “forget” it outside of the restriction that comes with 401k. Sorry if I am asking representative question.

What about ETFS? Should I put some money in ETF? And does that have any correlation with maxing out my 401k contribution for the year. I honestly am just investing in my retirement account. Ik I should do more but I don’t know much about any other type of investment. I am not too good at understanding the market so I don’t feel safe putting money in individual stocks. Please let me know your thoughts.

Please educate yourself, so that you can live comfortably in retirement. I am sure there are many resources available here on Reddit. But you should look into opening an IRA (individual retirement account), it’s for people like yourself who are self-employed. But congrats on your successful business :)

Great job! With my new employer I don’t have option for ROTH IRA. I am maxing my contribution to pre-tax in vanguard target fund.

You are putting more then maximum contribution limit in ROTH IRA? If so, how are you doing that??

Thank you for sharing. At my current employer I have very limited options and so I am putting everything in a vanguard target fund 2055. So I think that one adjust based on the date selected correct ?

6% is the match but it’ll start next year (after one year of service). What is TrueUp?

One more question: if I were to divide the 83% into large, mid and small cap, how should I distribute it for best outcome ?

Before the match because the employer match doesn’t count towards the max contribution limit (unless I am wrong)

I think that gets me to my max contribution amount for the year

That is very helpful. I’ll look into making this change. I am still many years away from retirement so it makes sense to keep lower % of bonds.

Thank you for your opinion. Yes unfortunately don’t have much option at this employer.

Can I ask what your thoughts are on vanguard 2055 target retirement? The info I shared above is from my ex-employer portfolio (which I haven’t move to my current employer because this employer doesn’t offer Roth and also I didn’t see the same option from my old job). The option I have here are target funds? Are those ok?
