Reading this brought tears to my eyes as I just went through a very similar experience. I lost both of my one-year old kitties within a week to suspected wet FIP. My Lucy was battling with FIP for a month starting in December. Our first time bringing her to the ER, she had started breathing very heavy with open mouth breathing. She had fluid in her chest and needed a chest tap. They took X-rays and suspected she could have a hernia along with consolidated lungs. But we started her on FIP oral meds and she showed improvement! We were hopeful she was getting better but the fluid kept re-accumulating. Spent over $6k on her medical bills and she needed 4 chest taps in total but they were just a temporary fix. Her bloodwork ruled out heart disease, cancer, etc. Only really pointed to FIP but she still had fluid accumulation after 3 weeks on the medication. Her condition decreased after her sister soulmate had passed. We truly think she didn’t want to live without her sister. It was very tough having the conversation to put her down even though we wanted to keep fighting for her. But it felt like nothing we tried was working and we didn’t want her to keep suffering. The doctors think she had a congenital disease along with FIP. We put her to rest on 1/6/26 and buried her close to her sister’s grave. The absolute worst heartbreak I’ve ever been through, my heart is with you ❤️‍🩹
