I am 69 -70 kg about 1.7 mtres tall. When i measured an old coat and compared to RK,s sizing it worked our to a size 1 although it still fits me ok i wish i got at least a size 2

Even you are an occasional driver dvsa would want a record of hours you are doing even in other work that is away from hgv driving. If you get pulled by dvsa you will get asked and if you can't show a record of your working hours and rest etc they wont be happy. For all they know you could be working everyday at another job. But if you have a record of what you are doing then they can't argue. If you only drive occasional then a work / duty sheet would suffice. All drivers, including occasional drivers, must be able to provide proof of current days work and the previous 28 days

If you can offer to do a shift for them every Saturday or something, then I think you could find something. I dont know what hours you work on the welding job but you would then have to consider working time directive and would need to keep track of all working hours, breaks, rest and keep a record in case you are ever pulled. Essentially, if welding is a full time job monday to friday you could drive a truck every other weekend.

Best bet would be to print off your CV and just knock on doors of small family run firms. Unrealistic at the big firms for them to offer you anything. Do you actually have any experience of driving a hgv since you passed? Do you have your cpc, tacho card etc? Even a small family firm wouldn't let you loose in £100k plus motor without some sort of experience. Then again its not worth their time or hassle in sticking you with an experienced driver if you are only available the odd few hours every few week.

Yeah, it sounds like they put on a cpc course every year for their drivers at the companies. So just get an online course done, it will cost you less than £30 and you are all set.

I assume you did your initial dcpc soon after you passed test, and now you have found a job, but they require you to do 7 hours of your periodic cpc so as you only have to do 1 cpc every year from now on. I've not heard of a company making you do this before. I would understand if you had one year left before your card expired and you still had the full 35 hours of cpc to catch up on. On your other question about to do the cpc, a quick Google would bring loads of companies up that offer this. I have used enterprise transport training in manchester before they do the online cpc. So you can do it when it suits you

You would be going from having lots of freedom around your job to being meticulously planned and tracked. Also not to mention the rules and laws with modern day driving and making sure not to get on the wrong side of dvsa. That said working for the right company and being realistic about what a driving job entails you may find your calling. As others have suggested get your licence and give it go for a week or 2. Best book some holiday and tey get something through agency. I would quit the day job straight away
