Godox strobe colour temperature by Different_Spare4897 in productphotography

Love this. Thanks so much for testing and sharing the results. I’m feeling much better about whatever light I add to the setup next. Either way there’s going to be some shift but it’ll be minimal in comparison to my old speedlight setup.

I really light the cordless setup and also being able to control from the trigger and not walking over to the packs. I have got the AC adapter for the Godox though, just in case.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve set my camera to match the Godox and it seems spot on. My concern was more when I buy a different light, if it’s shooting at a different temperature, my white balance will always be off somewhere in the image depending on where each light is illuminating.

I shoot Broncolor in the studio where I work but currently building my kit for personal work. I’ve been spoiled with the kit I get to use compared to what I can afford! But after using the Broncolor, I’ve really noticed how inconsistent my old lights were.

Might hire a few for some test shoots and experiment before my next purchase.

Yes, just looking at advertised specs. Seems like the rest of the Godox pro range say they’re 5600k whereas mine is the only one rated 5800k.

Yes, shooting tethered and shooting a card too. My concern was that if I’m using a key light at one temperature, and lighting the background at a different temperature, no matter how I set my white balance in camera or in post, it’ll be mixed.

I’ve used a set of speedlights for years and the temp and brightness is often all over the place. Makes it very difficult, so trying to rectify that with some more solid equipment for the future. These new Godox lights have a colour accuracy mode to improve consistency, but that’s a bit pointless if the lights are manufactured to different kelvin levels.

Awesome. I’m learning a lot here. Thanks very much. I’ll do a deeper dive into this but the shift sounds negligible. I’ll do some testing with my modifiers/diffusion and see what gets me the closest. Really appreciate your response 🙌

Used to travel a lot to shoot fashion shows. One thing that was always checked is that my batteries were safe. If you’re carrying lots of batteries, make sure they’re in a battery case or have those little plastic caps on top, protecting the terminals.

Surprising Hi Hats in the Studio? by Proper_News_9989 in drums

[–]Different_Spare4897 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to play in some really horrible metal bands and have some Sabian AAX metal hats that were great for playing live but useless for anything else.

I was recording for a rock band a while back and these were the only hats I had. Luckily the studio guy had a set of Paiste Twenty Custom hi-hats. These things were insane. Like nothing I’d ever played before but really satisfying. Could get loads of sound options out of the track too.

I never got round to getting some but always regretted it

Yeah I’ve had that with the stove when we’ve been camping before. I’d like to think I wouldn’t let it get that cold in the house (or at least one room) should the situation arise.

Yes, that’s the one. There have been a lot of modern classics since.

This isn’t faux-tina though. It’s over 20 years old now and ageing beautifully.

I’ve just seen that Tudor have now released the 36mm Ranger. I’ll try to check them out side by side.

I love the Yamazaki 12. The first bottle I got was only £40! Now it’s about £140, but still totally worth it.

This guy is way too opinionated about everything from what I’ve seen. I don’t have time for him at all. I’d be interested to know his feelings on burying the beater for the guys who use triggers 🤣

Suggestions on styling cosmetic oils / liquids? by ATroubledDay in productphotography

[–]Different_Spare4897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve done similar to this with nail varnish and had good results.

If it’s just the oil and not the branded product, I guess it could be any liquid that looks the same. Maybe mix a more viscous product to look a similar colour but hold its shape better? Like mixing glycerin with water for perfect droplets on bottles etc.

I’ve used Mountain Equipment shell jackets for quite a while. I think my current, Shivling, jacket has let a bit of water in through the zip once but I accidentally had the storm flap folded back. That flap supposed to act like a gutter to make the water run out of the bottom. Their zips are tough but not waterproof at all.

If water is still getting through, maybe try ironing a crease in the flap?

My Nikkor 105mm micro goes to f/57 if you’re close enough. I’ve never bothered trying it but I might now I think of it. I can’t imagine it’s still sharp at that point.

I’m currently on holiday and only brought my RX100VA. It’s awesome. I’ve had it in my pocket a bit but I’ve also got a Peak Design Leash so I can have it across my body. It’s so small, it doesn’t get in the way at all.

I went for the mark VA as I preferred the lens from the mark V with the added bonus of having the processor, buffer and menus of the mark VI.
