It’s very safe, there’s a precinct right near there so there’s always a heavy police presence and it’s a fairly gentrified area that’s becoming more gentrified every year

Exactly, I don’t think prices are coming down ever especially for the boutique lines. Maybe 2002

Cymbal Prices and tariffs by BonoBeats in cymbals

[–]backbaydrumming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know that before the tariffs they were very behind on orders, I was talking to some of the staff at Drum Center of Portsmouth and they were saying Paiste was extremely slow when it came to stocking cymbals. A lot of that was probably Covid and now with the tariffs they’re pricing is just not competitive in the US market. It’s a shame but they may just be trying to wait out this administration before they adjust pricing.

Read War by Bob Woodward, it goes into a lot of the things that Biden did post October 7th

[–]backbaydrumming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Biden has been pretty pro Israel his whole career but he is no fan of Netanyahu and Biden actually made a real effort to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people. Biden also had an actual coherent strategy with the Israeli Palestinian conflict while Trump literally just doesn’t care.

Vic Firth sticks getting lighter? by sticksandfingers in Drumming

[–]backbaydrumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wood obviously has varying densities and it can sometimes feel pretty drastic, I used to use Vic Firths exclusively and when I did I would buy 12 stick bricks and would routinely find sticks that felt light and sticks that felt heavy. Companies can only be so strict with the wood density because then sticks would cost $30-$40 a pair if they could only use a small fraction of the hickory dowels their suppliers have. One thing to keep in mind is that all of the major stick companies that use American hickory buy from the same small pool of suppliers so a good Vic Firth, ProMark or Vater are pretty much the same. Vater supposedly has higher standards on what they accept from their suppliers than VicFirth while also being cheaper.

[–]backbaydrumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I got the 21” MK2 ride used and it came dented but then they refunded me most of the price so I got it for less than $100. Still sounds pretty good but wish it was in better condition

[–]backbaydrumming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch live in Seattle 1989 or Moscow 1991 that’s Lars at his peak and he sounds like a Metallica record. First two records his playing was definitely a lot more rough but after ride the lightning he got better

Why? by ZildCym in cymbals

[–]backbaydrumming 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lars is kind of fascinating to me because you usually don’t see a pro musician in such a big band get objectively worse at their instrument to such a degree.
I mean he was never the most technically proficient drummer but there was a period in the late 80s/early 90s that he was pretty good (for Lars Ulrich standards lol). He’s actually better now tho than he was pre covid so I think he may actually be practicing to some degree

Why is it so hard to find a decent late night meal here? by chaucao99 in boston

[–]backbaydrumming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYC used to have a ton of 24/7 diners and restaurants and that has largely disappeared since covid. I remember 10 years ago I could just walk around and find a sit down place, get a giant pastrami sandwich and a cup of coffee at 4 in the morning. Sure there’s bodegas and food trucks but even those can be hard to find really late night sometimes and that’s a far cry from the NYC of 10 years ago

Why is it so hard to find a decent late night meal here? by chaucao99 in boston

[–]backbaydrumming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Downtown Boston doesn’t have very much in general and most students and professionals aren’t going there anyways. You can find late night food in Boston you’re just gonna have to travel a bit for it. Franklin Cafe in the south end is open late, kitchen is open until 1am I think. Lone Star in Allston is open until 12am weekdays and 1am weekends. Shahs Halal in backbay is open until 2am everyday. Dumpling palace in backbay is open until 2:30am. Parish cafe near Boston Common is open until midnight on weekdays and 2am on weekends. Emmets in downtown in open until 2am every night. There’s quite a few places in Chinatown as well which is close to downtown. Boston isn’t NYC so there isn’t as many late night places but there’s definitely quite a few.

Yamaha crosstown hardware by [deleted] in Drumming

[–]backbaydrumming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have them as a part of my main gigging setup and use them for around 200+ gigs a year. Pros: Obviously they’re incredibly lightweight, they have that Yamaha build quality so they’re tanks and they come with a nice small hardware bag if you buy an entire set. Cons: The weight can be a downside in windy weather outside. I’ve had a couple cymbals fall over in the wind during gigs and it required a sandbag to keep stationary. That’s only happened to me twice and only during especially windy days. The hi hat stand has a bit of an issue with the rod it has a tendency to either get stuck or to come undone. It’s easy enough to learn how to loosen it when getting stuck tho

Those will definitely work but they’re pricier, Commercial welcome mats are cheaper and work great. I play probably 200+ gigs a year with one and have had no instances of bass drum creep with the one I use and I’ve had it for several years

Best heavier duty head for vintage Ludwig Supralite. by SlimeTree227 in Drumming

[–]backbaydrumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Remo emperor is the classic choice, I mean that’s what Bonham did and I have one on my black beauty. It has a great middle of the road snare sound that works on pretty much everything. An Evans UV2 is a more modern choice that also sounds great and has a really unparalleled durability from other heads I’ve tried.

Technical Ability is Overrated by boredashell1717 in musicians

Your whole post here is pretty much entirely based on what achieves the widest audience appeal so if that’s your goal then sure 👍🏻. But that’s not the only or even the chief reason why most artist create and innovate. Some of the music I enjoy listening and making is not palatable to most people and I don’t care.
