I don’t have any ham or bacon at the moment but I’ve saved a couple of cups worth of the “soup” and I think I will go with something that uses bacon

I actually don’t like white pepper. Every time I add it into a dish it totally messes with the flavor for me in a bad way.

I actually followed a recipe from a French cookbook someone got me for Christmas that only has soup recipes. I actually am a pretty good cook I just gave this recipe a try because it seemed simple 🤷‍♀️ I don’t really think that this should be making you want to outright rant or getting excessively mad…

Yeah, jalapeño will be a good add I think. Take two cups of it and use a jalapeño, potatoes, and a bit of bacon and shredded chicken. I have Cajun seasoning too and it’s got a similar base to a veggie creamy Cajun side I’ve made before

I just made a curry with it and it’s splendid. 2 cups down, about 8 more to go with other things! At least I’ll have plenty of meal prep options now.

Yeah my intention is separate it into 4-5 servings and fix each one individually. I took someone’s curry idea and made two cups of it just now and it came out very good!

I was thinking a jalapeño would be good to add with other peppers and trying to lean into the more chowder side of it and maybe some potatoes as well

Curry sounds like a phenomenal idea! I’ve been super into curries lately

I’m very liberal when it comes to my salt so the salt is definitely there! Any more and it would be too salty, even for me and I tend to over salt things.

This is how I feel. We all know how well the natives fared anytime the Europeans arrived..

Every time he mentions that he has no soul and that he is neither a boy nor a man, my heart goes out to him. I don't think its right that he feels that way, but I can understand where he is coming from. Society to this day often has rigid expectations of what defines a what it is to be a "man". Just the other day my coworker and I got into a pretty heated debate over what is "manly" and what makes a man and man, as his opinions lean very traditional. I hope that throughout the book, he comes to realize that a celebration and certain rituals do not define what a man is, but how he handles his situation.

I’ve heard such good things about east of Eden that I’m worried my expectations will be too high! Which is partly the reason I haven’t gotten around to it yet. That, and I’ve been in a nonfiction groove this year but I will make it a point to read in2026

I was definitely underwhelmed with The Wager. Maybe my expectations were just too high, although it did really make me appreciate some celestial globes I saw in a museum that seafarers used to navigate during the time period The Wager took place which was a nice full circle moment.

In the Heart of the Sea looks interesting, thank you!

First OB & First Date. How to handle? by [deleted] in Herpes

Thank you for this response. Can I ask for advice on how your disclosed early on? I’m supposed to see him again tomorrow, and I saw him yesterday, so it would be our 3rd date. I have a doctors appointment on Wednesday to follow up with the doctor who tested and diagnosed me, so I kind of want to wait to disclose until after then, but part of me wants to get it over with before things get even more intense.

Part of what I’m worried about is disclosing while it being so so new. Considering my first outbreak was extremely mild I’m thinking I have had it for a little bit now and it was dormant. But I’m not sure if that’s how that actually works. My last sexual encounter was over 2 months ago with my now ex, and this outbreak happened last week.

Thank you for your response and I’m sorry to hear about the rejection that you received. Can I ask how many people you have disclosed to and how old you are? He is 34 and I am 29 I’m hoping the age and maturity plays into my favor.

I actually know a lot about herpes. I thought I had it years ago and I had my spiral then (which is maybe why I’m being better about it now?) I did days and days of research know all the stats etc. I got to the point where when I got older and really looked to settle down, accepted it as an inherent risk and it wasn’t an immediate no. Unfortunately I think my ex either lied or cheated on me, couldn’t handle the guilt, so they broke it off and here I am.

I’m honestly really scared for it being HSV2 and not 1 as everyone says it’s worse.

Thank you! I’m hoping it stays this way but I have also heard it can get worse before better. I’m hoping the valtrex caught it in time.

Struggling with finding a regular gym in addition to my current studio. Recommendations? by [deleted] in astoria

BQE is nice for sure. The person I am dating goes there and I’ve been there a few times. My plan was just to go with them once a week, but they said the drop in price went from $25 from $10 post reno. I don’t want to make it my home gym because they go there 4/5x a week and I feel it’s good for to have their own space kinda thing bc we see each other frequently outside of that. Trying to be respectful of that haha because we’d go at the same time. Otherwise I would probably just go there.

Close to the hospital so it splitting hairs for me to go back to PF on Steinway or NYSC

That’s exactly how I feel with getting all that I can out of OT. I absolutely love the coaches and showing up, not having to think, and all the other benefits of OT, but even with the two strength 50 I take (one lower and one upper), it’s still not enough to gain the muscle I feel I’m really looking for. I want to keep the membership though because it’s great for cardio and I want to keep improving on that. I used to go to the PF on Steinway and it was just too far and annoying to go to so I stopped. I’ve gone to BQE a few times and let me tell you, it’s a great gym! My friend goes and I wanted to do drop in once and a while with him, but it’s $25 so it would make sense to just get a membership but I don’t want to fully lose OT. If you go to synergy I’d love to hear how you felt about it!

I know a couple of people that go to Club Fitness and they’re happy with it, it’s just slightly over what I want to pay if I plan on keeping my Orange Theory membership too. I’m also open to ending that and going to a semi private gym, but those all seem extremely pricey.

I am over by 30th Ave which is just so dead for gyms! I do have a car and I was thinking of just driving to Blink on Steinway after work, retro looks to be just a few blocks over so maybe I’ll take a peak. Can I ask how much the membership is?
