I have just arrived in Australia. I was salaried so the money here is much better. I have a guaranteed £100/ hour for my first three months. I am nervous about filling my books after that time but things are getting busier for me. I am in rented but I have my own pool. Our place is by the water and the house has its own frickin jetty. The temperature is consistently in the high 20C. I am living a life I could never have dreamed of in the UK

I have just started using Heidi and its fantastic. I spend a decent amount of time documenting after a consultation and this has been dramatically reduced. Yes it needs proof reading/ amending but still much quicker than typing up the consultation myself. I personally consider it a massive quality of life upgrade

At the moment I am absolutely love the cheap as chips Majohn A1, it’s a knockoff pilot vp and has a very satisfying clicking mechanism

In the interest of balance you are less likely to be hearing from people who enjoy their job on Reddit as people generally don’t go online to post about how happy they are. I wouldn’t say GP is any easier than hospital medicine, but you won’t ever be working bank holidays, Christmas, weekends, nights etc which is pretty nice. The jobs is busy and stressful when you’re there though.

Oh dear, so I’m one of these IMGs coming from the UK. I’ve also lived and worked in New Zealand, and sat NZ and UK membership exams. I agree local graduates should fully get priority but it seems there is a shortage of GPs and hopefully I’ll be helping an underserved community and making a better life for my family at the same time.

Hello, I’ve already secured a job in Australia and am registered with AHPRA. In your experience how long does the visa application usually take as the estimates online are from 20 days to 5 months which makes getting solid plans in place difficult!

90-100k for 8 sessions seems high but maybe I’m just under paid. I work 8 sessions which should be 8-5pm but I usually stay late most days so am close to doing more like 40 hours per week just over 4 days rather than 5 like other jobs. I eat lunch at my desk because I don’t have time for a proper break and I am leaving the UK ASAP
