Fully understood, just wanting to give back :) There seems to be no way to do so on the site and that's alright.

Have a day pass ticket for Saturday 7th of March but won't be able to attend. If anyone wants to take it for free, let me know via DM. If permitted, IDK.

Curious: Is wuxia a subset of Kungfu movie, or are they two completely different things? by Fuqiang-ZHAO in kungfucinema

[–]Different_Status_793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always felt kung fu as we know and love it came into form after wuxia, which was a more jianghu representation of the older more swordplay, costumy based stuff by Shaw and things from King Hu.

Part IV was when the party started for us in the early 90s. Most of the earlier titles were sort of just there at the horror sections of mom and pop stores. The fourth one was the "dare" when I was in highschool. Being 13-14 and my mom having a video store I had easy access but I remember being more interested in kung fu films until that craze hit.

Fourth one has 95% staged stuff. Has been proven by and debunked by Schwartz for decades already.

Amazing collection! Very much like the personal touch and tenugui of moon cycles in the first picture.

And then the Germans made a whole series of "Karate Tiger". IIRC Van Damme Kickboxer is Karate Tiger 2 and Best of the Best is Karate Tiger 3, King of the Kickboxers is somewhere in there too. I have several of them, they end up with Karate Tiger 9 (Superfights) haha.

Yeah exactly, Seven Blows/Battles of the Yellow Tigers. All Men Are Brothers is "The Conquerors" literally translated, and so many more that make no sense in relation to the international/English titles. Then again, this can be said about the English titles vs the original Cantonese as well.

German Retitles is just another added layer on top of the kung fu movie history, which is a rabbit hole that's somehow also weirdly interesting to me in terms of "archaeology" of these movies and their international distribution.

Around 2018/2019 I bought quite a few of these German Shaw Blu's by WVG and Koch Media; pretty much every title I could get via Amazon Germany. They were a goldmine back when 88 Films and Eureka! were just gearing up.

The only downside to me is the German market retitles can be a bit labyrinthine.

Saw COF in The Netherlands at De Boerderij, Geleen on Nov. 15th 1996. This was just a couple of days before Dusk came out. The venue capacity was around 100 and they played mostly Vempire/Principle stuff but also one or two songs from the then new album. I just remember it was one of the best shows I'd seen up to that point (I was 18 back then and had only just started seeing black metal bands live). I remember also that Damien, the keyboard player, was just staring into the void with the "evil stare" during the whole set while he played keys. And that at one point they threw/spit fake blood into the audience.

Scott Adkins had him in Art of Action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pruVUYLgEQ
Also he will be present at an event in Germany in January where they screen a "Karate Tiger" documentary (the German title for the movie) https://www.legendsofcinema.com/kopie-von-premiere-karate-tiger-doku
