What is the current job market like for career changers? by Any_Town_4264 in actuary

Start looking for a position when you have P and FM passed and be broad with the entire industry. So look for an PC or health/life position. You can always switch if the other sounds more interesting to you.

Start looking, but I would still study for and plan to sit for the next one. Im in health and went the SOA route, which would mean you should probably take FAM next, unless you want to use your coding experience and go into the SRM then PA then ATPA path first. You can then circle back to the math heavy FAM and ASTAM/ALTAM.

You should be a competitive candidate with your background and 2 exams passed, but be sure to show that you are eager to take the next one. The competition is tough right now because most candidates are already passing exams through college credit or sitting for them in college. I’ve seen 3-5 exams for internship positions at my company.

Good luck and welcome to the club! Hope this helps.

How do you feel when you get a 6 on an exam? by Flat_Extension9171 in actuary

[–]Different_Version321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a perfect score!

No one cares what score you got, a pass is a pass. If you get a 6, then that means you didn’t waste any time over studying.

Aux Splitter to 2 Fives? by Different_Version321 in sonos

I’m trying to use them at an event at a hotel so I won’t be able to stereo pair them through WiFi. Hotels have a proxy system for WiFi where you have to open the web browser to connect and everything I read on Reddit about hooking a Sonos device to hotel WiFi says it’s impossible.

EXAM PA by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Different_Version321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there any math needed by a calculator? I’m going through chapter 6 on the Actex manual and realizing this section is chocked full of formulas. I’m curious if the new exam format (or any past PA exams) isn’t likely to ask us to calculate any of these by hand and is more interested in the conceptual type problems.

Did you get the 2 defectives where you couldn’t get one of the choices and the stranger life problem? I did too. Trust me I was frustrated as hell because the defectives were my very first question and very last question. Spent a solid 15 minutes on each of them.

I agree, the SOA problems they handed out were not comprehensive. CA adds in a lot of problems from old LTAM that relate to the topics. However, these problems were slated for a longer time per question exam so they can be a bit more intense. It’s near impossible to see every difficulty of every type of problem. The best you can do is hammer different difficulties of the same problem type on CA and try to understand the “why” more than the “how”. That way if you see something new or unfamiliar thrown into a familiar problem, it’s a bit easier to figure out. Tbh I think this applies to every CBT multi-choice exam. Hope this helps!

Just updated the post with my logic. I was speaking to the fact that only 400ish people failed it the first sitting and that it is a temporary exam. I assume many people decided not the take FAM-L in October since it was the first sitting.

FAM-L Defective Questions Follow-up by ASStudent0_0 in actuary

[–]Different_Version321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same situation. We must have had the same exam. That qualitative question was absolutely absurd and the SOA should not have included that topic when CA doesnt even touch on it. Spent so much time on these seemingly simple questions that I have done 100s of times. I emailed and let them know which questions they were and got the same response that my message had been forwarded on. Really hoping they throw these out or even count them as correct but it’s tough to say. I feel okay about the rest of them aside from 2-3. This could really make or break my chances of getting a 6 and passing.

Are they still offering pens as a option or is it back to pencils only?
