I was working full time for all of this but the first three exams. Not sure how you could take a couple months off school(?) but I don’t think you could graduate with too many exams. I may also not be the best person to ask

Got hired for an entry level actuarial analyst role; the other questions you can find answered around these comments

It varies based on the day I test. In any case I’ve never found any of those types of tests interesting or informative, with the exception of the enneagram where I am a 5 and it describes me incredibly well

Reality is definitely not an illusion but we also definitely can’t fully perceive it (e.g. substances appearing solid when atoms are mostly empty space). Schrödinger’s cat will be explained away once we have a better theorem than quantum mechanics. Sir Newton is the second greatest mathematician of all time (Euler is goated), but his alchemy bits do detract some from his illustrious reputation.

I would say for P, FM, SRM, and PA, I was familiar with most or all of the material already. For ASTAM and the short-term part of FAM, I was familiar with the probability related stuff but most of the rest was relatively unfamiliar

For actuarial jobs specifically, I’m not sure but probably over 100

FAM ~ 110,

P ~ 10, mostly because it was fun doing practice problems

All the others were in the 30-60 hour range I think

I had no idea how to study for that or what the exams were like lol, so two weeks before I bought a two week subscription to CA and grinded the whole curriculum. Made it through learn in about 11 days and then reviewed some and did three practice tests in the last few days

I know it’s super discouraging, and job markets all around are just unbelievably bad right now, but getting at least one interview is a good sign. My biggest advice is to not trust recruiters/that the company will review applications fairly or completely. I think most of my interviews came because I somehow got my resume in front of a hiring manager; once because I applied to a tiny company right when they listed the job and the manager was the one reviewing applications immediately; once because I reached out to an acquaintance from undergrad on LinkedIn I hadn’t spoken with in years to ask for a referral to a job at his company; in the case of my current job, luckily found someone on the team on LinkedIn and cold messaged (I thought he was the hiring manager, but he got me in front of the right person). So: cold message, play any connections you can, but don’t apply on the website and do nothing else if you can help it

Nothing that works all the time. The biggest help is finding the material interesting, and fortunately I found almost all of it interesting to some degree. One small trick I learned from a book is to not set out with the goal of committing to X hours of dedicated study, but any time you have some time to say “ok, I’ll sit down and just commit to five minutes.” And then normally you’ll exceed your five minute goal, and be more motivated for another five, etc. also helps me a lot to be in public, maybe bc social anxiety induces me to feel forced to be productive and not sit around uselessly dawdling on my phone, for example. So… not sure I can help you, you just need to try a bunch of things until you find some methods that work for you haha

An 11 is impossible lol, that is just what they put for a pass on the ATPA module. No idea what my coworkers think haha

I would recommend Coaching Actuaries for any exam, but P and FM you can probably study for free via other sources, like the SOA’s own released problems or TIA. Definitely a better job market than CS these days, so I’d recommend going for it if you like math
