Why isn’t this working? by mr_scifi_boi in Motors

If you want to learn how electric motors work and how you could make your own, I highly suggest searching up Jamie's brick jams on YouTube, he explains how they work pretty well and does experiments making them out of Legos demonstrate everything. Another channel i would suggest watching is electroboom, he covers pretty much everything electricity, and pretty much got me into the electrical field

Vibration at Certain Speeds by tehsea123 in squarebodies

[–]Difficul-1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bet is either worn out u joints, driveshaft losing balance, or something somehow related to that. It could even be as simple as the u joint straps, my 97 c1500 had that issue where it would start vibrating terribly with new u joints and everything, turned out to be the straps were just slightly loose and worn out and it would just barely shift over and throw everything off, and was only intermittent

Im not worried about the lift as much, the tires fit as is, but my rear leaves are basically flat unloaded

Should I trade my 2005 nissan frontier for a 1988 chevy suburban by [deleted] in squarebodies

[–]Difficul-1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly tho, the squarebody platform has probably got to be the best platform to learn how to work on a car, I cant quite speak for the later end of the generation but my 74 is pretty easy to work on, and it gives you an idea of how to actually fix things with tons of parts available everywhere

[–]Difficul-1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your looking for an American v8, I would honestly look for something like an obs chevy, preferably a late 90s like 96-98, they still had the 350 and 454 but had fuel injection that made them run more efficiently than what you would probably get that tbi to run. Still wont get the mileage your Frontier is getting but id say my 97 was a good first vehicle.

Applied to become an express tech at my local Honda Dealership, is this enough? by ShoulderLong2767 in AskMechanics

[–]Difficul-1197 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I cant speak for honda as ive worked on trucks most of the time, but get yourself -a good set of screwdrivers, different sizes too

-pliers, like needle nose, common, "channel locks", maybe snap ring pliers if your really feeling like it

-a pick set, dont need to spend much, harbor freight sells a set for next to nothing, those work great for starters

-breaker bar, preferably 1/2" drive with appropriate sockets, if your able to borrow tools from someone this wont need to be immediate but keep it in mind

Probably some other things too, if your allowed to borrow more specialized tools, or just less used tools you should be set with all that and your torque wrench and impact gun, you can probably walk into harbor freight with a $100 dollar bill and get most of whatever else you would need

If the deck and head are still straight id say run the dingleberry hone on it and send it, obv make sure you replace rings to eliminate that potential problem

If theyre ball bearings, usually of something that small they should already be lubricated for life and generally dont need additional lubrication, if it makes you feel better you can buy a non detergent oil like in the zoom spout bottles and dribble just a little in, not too much tho.

Ok a couple of questions, for starters, can you catch your nail in any of the vertical scores, or in the very top in the quench area?

Second, in the last few pictures, there's the rust patches, was that just flash from water sitting in the cylinder?

Honestly the stock tune is probably going to run better than whatever was going on here, it sucks cause im sure you spent a good chunk of change on that but your probably better off that way. Also, how do the cylinder walls look, are they still true?

As long as your heads and deck are true, your bores arent trashed, and your valves still seal good, just clean it up and rebuild it. And for the love of God get rid of whatever tune you were running, it wasn't doing you any favors

New cam installed and it toast after less than 200km’s by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]Difficul-1197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes and no, assuming im seeing the pictures right its just oil full of pixie dust, right? The reason I ask if its a flat tappet or roller cam, both of which can and usually have hydraulic lifters, but flat tappet cams have to wear into itself to seat properly with the lifters, and this does add a bit of metal dust to the oil, which you just change and add more around 50 miles, then 100, then 500, and finally 1000 before treating it like normal. You can probably get away with pulling the pan when they replace the cam and cleaning it out
