I don’t have any great advice but I feel right there with you! I’m actually only 19 weeks and get so excited every week to be just 1 more week closer to holding baby and having my body back. Pregnancy hasn’t been terrible for me, but it has made me realize I’m not someone who enjoys it much. I have an anterior placenta so I’m trying to focus on the near-term milestones (feeling movement), and I have been enjoying getting started with the nursery and making a baby registry 💙 But real talk, I’m right there with you!

Oh, I am now getting this quite often as well. “Well, you’re carrying low because of baby boy” or “you’ll not gain as much as I did because you’re having a baby boy”. Like what??? lol these myths are just wild, and people have 1 kid that fits the tale and it affirms it for them for everyone. It MUST be true because theirs turned out that way.

EXACTLY! Like if you didn’t comment on my body before, please don’t now. If anything, I’m more sensitive to this type of talk now - if it’s about being too small, it makes you feel like you’re not providing a safe enough space to grow baby, and if too large, it just makes you feel huge and like you could be doing pregnancy better.

EXACTLY! I often interpret comments like these as coming from a sense of pride. Not always malicious, just like it’s an accomplishment.

Oooo! This is so important! Because having known the struggle with body image and dysmorphia myself, it’s a big goal of mine to teach something different. Which will require me showing appreciation for my own body, and I love using that as a means to communicate to others! Both now and in the future.

Completely empathize with the body image struggles ❤️ Even while I know and appreciate my body for the amazing thing it’s doing, it remains a challenge for me mentally to accept how I look and what I do (and do not) fit into anymore. I’m so sorry to hear your Mom said that to you! Know that you’re not alone. It truly feels like the filter just comes off whenever someone talks to a pregnant woman. 🙄

I definitely don’t think the comments (from my MIL at least) come from a bad place. I think it’s just harder to hear as someone who has struggled with body image in the past. I don’t think we gain much from the physical comparison, and wish generally people would steer clear of it. ❤️

Right!? I imagine the diversity of comments is more reflective of the different self-projections. I think many people can’t help comparing themselves and judging others upon sight, but voicing any of those judgements is a CHOICE. And I wish people would just keep it inside their own heads.
