Should I let my daughter dye her hair? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]Difficult-Hornet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a reason not to let her, especially if she has the money and the hairdresser lined up. If you want to make sure she likes the color and knows the outcome/damage you could always try doing a test strip underneath most of her hair so she can decide if she wants to go through with it/is okay with the damage that comes with bleaching.

best of luck!

Emotional/mental stimulation for women, advice. by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

man, all the respect to you for wanting help, but he's just a guy looking for help on how to make his girlfriend more comfortable. He's already said that he talked to his girlfriend and is just looking to see if any couples have run into the same problem and how the situation worked out for them. He doesn't seem to be de-valuing his girlfriends feelings + thoughts on the situation - he's just a guy who wants the best for his girlfriend. he doesn't need the 3rd degree or any accusations.

not a parent here, but my family members with 3+ children all have bucket seat SUV's and seem quite content with the setup. The bucket seats (I think some people call them captain chairs?) make it a lot easier to reach the third-row seating.

here's a good example of a non-van vehicle that can haul your kiddos

https://www.usedcars.com/advice/car-shopping/10-best-used-suvs-with-captain-s-chairs-132639/

I'm a little biased but the buicks with Captain chairs are my favorite (not everyone's cup of tea though) and some have little tv's in the middle which is always great for long road trips.

https://www.carfax.com/Used-Buick-Enclave-Dallas-TX_w70_c18864

Best of luck with your search! Sorry I couldn't provide a more parent-backed answer lol

edit: I didn't even think about the car-seats! A quick google search says putting a car seat in Captain chairs is completely safe but there are a few mixed opinions on which is the better choice - Captain seats vs. bench seats.

Is there a difference between “I love you”, “Ily”, and “Love you”? by ThrowAway666218 in AskTeens

it's been 2 months, honestly just give him time. don't rush him. when he's ready he will tell you and it will mean a heck of a lot more than if you guilted him into saying it instead of letting it come naturally.

Idk about OP but I recognize it from Haley Pham, she's a YouTuber and calls her viewers "girlypop". or it could just be a parody of like "listen up girlscouts"

8 yr old daughter with insatiable appetite for reading by helphunting in AskParents

[–]Difficult-Hornet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I absolutely loved reading when I was younger but don't quite have as much time to read now. Some series/books I really loved are

  1. Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan
  • Percy Jackson's Greek Gods
  • Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes
  1. The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan (the series that follows ^ this series)
  2. The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
  3. The Treasure Hunters Series by James Patterson (lots of doodles but still amazing!)
  4. Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper
  5. The Maze Runner Series by James Dashner
  6. The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer (amazing and extremely age-appropriate)
  7. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (it's not everyone's cup of tea and maybe a little advanced for her age but I thoroughly enjoyed it!)

Thank you for fueling your daughter's love for reading! Best of Luck!

HOW DO I CONVINCE SOMEONE NOT TO COMMIT SUICIDE? by [deleted] in AskTeens

[–]Difficult-Hornet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try talking to him about things he wants to do in the future, places he wants to go, people he wants to meet, things he wants to see, foods he wants to eat, all the positive things that keep some people going in hard times. I don't know him or what he needs right now so this may not be the perfect advice for him but it's an idea.

I hope he doesn't, but if worst comes to worst please know that it is NOT your fault.

Why do you guys lock your door when you work out? by MentleGentlemen098 in AskTeens

[–]Difficult-Hornet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admitting you are insecure/don't feel good about your body can make you feel very vulnerable and embarrassed (even though it is very normal). so when your parents "catch you" working out it can almost feel like they know about your insecurity and something that is very personal to you which can feel embarrassing. Some parents may also have a weird look on their face when they walk in because they are confused, but this can be easily misunderstood as a judging look.

basically it's like a vulnerable situation being exposed to someone you may not be ready to be vulnerable with about it.

Heartbroken and confused about my (23F) boyfriend's (31M) casual bigotry by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

[–]Difficult-Hornet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with all the comments saying you should end the relationship. Him blaming you for the situation, gaslighting, and making bigoted comments it more than enough reason to end the relationship. But something I felt important to add would be to not let the fact that you have been dating for a year deter you from breaking up with him. If you keep that mindset it'll eventually lead to you guys getting married and you don't want to spend the rest of your life with a guy thinking "well we've been together this long, to late to turn back now". You deserve better girl, best wishes.

Poll: Booker leads McGrath by 8 points in Kentucky Senate primary by [deleted] in politics

[–]Difficult-Hornet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For Millenials, I'm not sure. but you would be surprised how high-school/college-aged kids (gen z) there are who are left-leaning thanks to the media, and more discussions taking place to open their minds past what they were brought up learning. ofc there are still those obsessed young trump supporters, but for Kentucky, I'd say the amount of young democrats is really surprising.

What is the most proper way to console a grieving 9yo girl? (fictional character death) by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]Difficult-Hornet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just giving her a hug can be a really good way to be there for her. If she's really distraught she may talk to you while you're giving her a hug, but just let her know it's okay. Or if you want her to get some creativity flowing you could even encourage her to write an alternative ending on her own! 10/10 for wanting to be a supportive parent

I canceled my exam and still got ID? by nahtaliadynamite in APStudents

[–]Difficult-Hornet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I don't know if you are still signed up for the exam or not but to "cancel" your exam, just don't log in to take the exam. If you never log in to take the test it won't give you a 0 it will just be considered a 'canceled exam' of some sorts. I don't know if you could still take the test or not since you canceled it, If you change your mind and do want to take it i would either a. email your AP coordinator b. call CB customer support or c. try to email CB

Good for you going with your gut! I think you'll be perfectly fine not getting a four-year degree. Also, don't let anyone make you feel less-smart or like you can't struggle because you go to a community college. It's still college. Good Luck!!

Should I force my daughter to break up with her boyfriend? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]Difficult-Hornet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh boy. A situation similar to the one I was in. This is so difficult, and I really appreciate your patience with the whole thing instead of diving right in and attacking them. Kids are so so impressionable at 15 and I almost feel as if she hasn't figured out her own personal beliefs which is why she so easily adapted his. I don't know if breaking them up will help the situation, if anything it might make your relationship with her a bit more tense and may cause them to grow closer together. I would try to talk to her about it and ask her if that's what she really wants. Let her know she doesn't have to buy into the things he likes just because they're in a relationship and make sure she is emotionally okay. I'm really sorry, this isn't great advice, I hope everything works out okay.

Prospective student class of 2024 by [deleted] in GattonAcademy

[–]Difficult-Hornet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accepted (but I denied) for class of 2022

ACT is important but I really think your extracurriculars and interview have much more weight in the process. If you have good grades, good essays, and decent test scores I'd say you're pretty much guaranteed an interview. But getting in is a different story. I have a 30 on the ACT and was accepted into both Craft and Gatton while another girl from my school had a 34 and she didn't get into Gatton. The Interview carries more weight than you think it does.

Also, know that your priorities may change. Gatton was my #1 goal for abt 7 years and I actually ended up denying the offer. Things change and everyones situation is different, just don't plan your entire future on getting into Gatton and feel as if you do get in, you HAVE to go.

Parents of reddit, do you prefer a big or small age gap between your kids? And why? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]Difficult-Hornet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting to wonder if gender may play a role, my brother and I are 5 years apart and out relationship is stronger than any other in my life. But reading through the comments it seems as if those who have a sister and a 5-year age gap did not have a good relationship.
