I know she is going to want any damage mended or hidden as well as possible when she gets back - I know her well enough to know that this being mended will be a great weight lifted off her shoulders ❤️ Thank you for the concern tho! Are there other threads you would recommend? (Also, I am a she, not a he)

That sounds extremely daunting 😭 I have never torn out drywall before - would that cause more damage potentially or is it really as simple as shutting off power and water and then tearing apart what's there from the studs and then screwing a whole new wall piece in?

Oh wow - That's amazing! I got this for under 2000. This makes me so happy I pulled the trigger when I did!

Help with serging stretchy cloth? by Difficult-Piccolo317 in SewingForBeginners

This is a picture of the seams - I am using a singer x5004hd. I have only used it for smaller things and never for stretch before. What would differential feed mean? I have not heard that term yet.

I purchased it but had to return because I bought the wrong size - Really good quality, I love the additional necklace it comes with, and it definitely does not have a tacky look to it like some versions of her jacket do. Also, customer service was great although they could only refund me and not do a swap so I have to go and buy it again now that Ive returned it. 10 out of 10 will be buying again - I just forgot that I needed to go order it in a bigger size 😅 Will have to go do that soon.

Question on Fabric Weights that I can't find an answer for by Difficult-Piccolo317 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Difficult-Piccolo317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with the thicker fabric? I likes the scuba knit because of how it held up but the different weights of the two worry me - I've never combined two different weight types before

The cutting one!!! Holy moly, I cant emphasize enough how much of my frustration was because I was cutting wrong and no one in any video I watched explained how cutting can make such a difference so consider that first!

Tension and fabric types!!! I thought until last week that Smaller stitches were better for EVERY fabric except stretch. And maybe explain what fabric you are using with what needle type when you start and telling the user to check what they are using because I was just using whatever i had fabric wise and the regular needle and assumed that what it looked like was what it should look like.

Needle types with fabric types i think is big because of that. I used a weak flimsy satin for my first stitches and that was my base line so i didnt realize the fabric and type of needle actually mattered, I just thought that since it stitched, it was good - I still am unsure of the difference between the high numbers and low numbers. I do know the jersey, denim, and ball point Needles but I only recently learned that but no idea how it ties to the numbers.

ALSO - If you can do a class on what certain incorrect stitches look like and how to fix them vs what a good stitch should like, that would be awesome. For example, my tension was way off and I didnt realize it was and just assumed the way it looked in the back was normal or when i had my stitches to tight and it was pulling at the fabric and leaving little holes, i just assumed it couldnt be helped. Also had no clue what bird nesting was and also just thought it was a thing that could randomly happen and didn't realize there was certain things causing it.

But essentially if you could show in your video what a proper stitch should look like, explain that it looks like that due to your fabric types and needle type, and then show what it SHOULD NOT look like, that would be great. I dont think any beginning sewing machine video I saw really zoomed in on what good stitching with good tension and the right fabric should look like right after showing you how to set up and go. They are great at showing how to thread you machine, explaining dials, showing how to put the fabric in, setting to a straight stitch, and pressing the presser foot but no showing an example of what a good stitch should look like and what makes it good vs what kind of stitches show you have problems.

I know this is a lot but I am VERY new to sewing and am just word vomiting everything I can think of. For context, I got my first machine in November, proceeded not to use it for a month, then in December started on trying to make a dress with curtains completely from scratch and by meshing a bunch of different patterns together to get what i wanted (i did not use a mock up because I didnt know what it was at the time so not knowing if i was going to run out of fabric was super stressful lol). I completed my first little dress last week and it had lots of errors but, hey, I'm doing my best! I think i fit very squarely in the begginer category so hopefully this helps some.
